Commercial Description:
In the 1700's one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado's hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Had it in a pint glass. The appearance is a light amber/orange. Poured w/a nice head. Not a lot, just perfect amount of head. The aroma is floral, bitter smell. Moderatly hoppy. Now for the taste. Bitter, floral, hints of citrus. Just like it smelled. Great bitter aftertaste. The bitterness lingers even after you drink it. Long after.

tap @ papago. a crystal clear copper beer topped with a fluffy whitish head which leaves nice light lace work. grapefruit and orange aromas dominate over caramel, toasted grain, and light pine. flavor is nicely hopped w/o overkilling my palate... wood, citrus rind and a savory element which keeps it from being too sweet. grassy dry finish. nice texture and smooth mouth feel. 7/3/7/4/16/3.7

on tap this is the beez neez. perfectly balanced for sessioning yet crisp and refreshing enough to satisfy with just one. gotta respect a beer that can do that! 8/3/8/4/17/4

Nice label with an old map on it. Clear honey pour with modest head. Strong, first-rate scent of honey-like malts and hops. Well-rounded and balanced IPA flavor - solid malts, tasty hops, some orange in there, maybe even a dash of spices too. Medium-light carbonation. This is a super IPA, and another winner from Avery.

On tap. Sweet, caramel smell. Not the normal overly hoppy smell that I expected. Perfect amber color with great lacing. Lots of sweet maltiness for an IPA. One of my favorite IPAs - smooth and not overly bitter (good for a newbie like myself). A GREAT BALANCE of malt and hops. It interacts in the mouth perfectly. Perfect amount of water to not overwhelm the palate with bitterness. I really enjoyed the smooth sweetness with the perfect hoppy finish. No intense drying effect like most IPAs I’ve tried. Progression is great. I can’t wait to have this again.

pours a light golden yellow in color with a nice two finger frothy head toning down to a thin white layer on the surface and lighter carbination. smell is sweet hops, lemon, some pines, grapefruit, and another sweet fruit i cant quite pin down. mouth feel is medium and the taste is more hops then the smell leads on with grapefruit, citrus, and that mystery fruit that may be apricot. has some sweetness with caramel and is a good "session" beer with a nice hops flavor that is not too much and just the right amount of malt and bitterness to go with it.

Having heard nothing about this beer prior to purchasing it, I was pleasantly surprised. It pours a deep gold with a large, dense, pillowy, off-white head that takes it’s sweet time in diminishing. The aroma is citrus, pine and flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with a bitter finish that wicks all moisture from the tongue. The flavor is sweet caramel malts up front with a strong floral, pine and citrus hop backing. This is a tasty IPA with a nice lingering finish.

Not the Maharaja, but a very nice hoppy beer. Good smells and a nice end. I could try and get sick of IPAs and this wouldn’t do it. A good beer to watch Monday Night Football with.
