ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Sep 16, 2008 Draught at EBF 2008. Black with medium beige head. Nice mix of coffee and chocolate aromas, followed by an alcoholic burn. Full bodied, smooth mouthfeel. Dry finish. oteyj (716), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Sep 15, 2008 Pours like used motor oil with no head. Aroma is loaded with roast and dark fruit- hints of coffee. Flavor is predominantly molasses, and chocolate. Alcohol bites through, but is welcome. Palate is thick and warming. This is a unique brew which definitely has its place. Habanero (610), Tranbjerg, Denmark Sep 14, 2008 Bottle. Pours pitch black beer with a tiny head. Nose of coffee with notes of vanilla and alcohol. Very sweet flavour wih alcohol, malt, chocolate and wood. Full bodied. Powerfull and complex but still balanced. Great. Adenila (931), Denmark Sep 14, 2008 Rating #16from the european beer festival 2008.
Completly black! The nose is sweet and sugery with strong as hell alchohol notes. Heavy bitter flavor again with loads of alchohol, suger and a roasted finish. The most difficult to drink this evening, but i enjoyed the little i had. craftycarl21 (513), South Hero, Vermont, USA Sep 13, 2008 Pours jet black with small head. Aroma is not your typical impy- almost smells like an abt, with dark fruit and malt but not much of the typical notes of coffee, cream, and roast. Flavor hits more like your standard impy, but maintains those unique side styles. Palate is very nice, and the roast and coffee builds more as the initial taste dissipates. Very nice beer.
sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland Sep 13, 2008 (Bottled) Almost black with a small, beige head. Strongly malty, strongly licoricey, lightly salty aroma. Intensely malty, quite alcoholic flavor with lots of roasted malt, and a strong licorice finish. Full-bodied, low-carbonated, burning-alcoholic palate. Somewhat too alcoholic, but surprisingly drinkable and balanced after a while. Not in large doses, though. BigBang (210), Indiana, USA Sep 12, 2008 The other reviews do a good enough job of describing this one. Very strong and too much like port wine for me. Loads of dark fruit/prunes/licorice. Interesting to taste but would not want a full bottle. tturner (103), , Washington, USA Sep 10, 2008 comes out black like used motor oil. settles into a deep black with rich ruby edges. The smell is simply divine (pun intended), malty sweet notes, mixed with espresso roast. This is a very strong and pungent brew. If it were a single malt, I’d add water.
bitter across the tongue, like a good dark shot of espresso. sweet on the front, opens up on the back of the mouth as you swallow.
did i mention intense? definitely a sipper.
