Commercial Description:
Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Mephistopheles is the final installment of "The Demons of Ale" series.

Pours a very dark color with a dark coffee brown head. Hints of caramel, chocolate, and alcohol in the aroma. Sweet chocolate/ roasted coffee taste makes this one of the tastier imperial stouts I’ve had.

Pour is black with small-bubbled tan head. Good retention and lacing for a filtered beer. Nose is very full and complex--caramelized dark fruits (as suggested) abound the nostrils, molasses, a little booze, some chocolate and coffee as well. Flavor is very sweet and cloying, molasses is the first thing I taste along with a little alcohol. Another sip--unmistakeable molasses again, maybe some toffee, but much lighter on the chocolate and coffee flavors I am used to tasting in big imperial stouts. The flavor is really disappointing to me considering how pleasent the nose was. Just cant get past the molasses. Alcohol pretty well hidden. Love the label.

12oz. Bottle: The aroma was on the sweet side. Smelled liked floral hops, sugary fruits, and alcohol. Poured dark black with a big, brown, head that lasted throughout. Good lacing. Very opaque. Very pretty beer. Flavor was very sweet. Tasted of roasted malts, alcohol, and smoke. Full body. Thick texture. Soft carbonation. Short malty finish. Overall, good, but too sweet and malty.

12 oz. bottle in a trade form Captaincougar (Batch 1). Pours black with almost no head. Aroma of malt, molasses, and dark fruit. Flavors of molasses and sweet malt, and candied fruit. Very nice.

16.0% version. A roasty slightly nutty oatmeal aroma. Just all over the place. Very bittersweet and thick thick thick. A nice finish of both thick and thin and strong and grainy. An intense crazy beer.

Pours thick with a full brown head that lingers. Aroma is of prunes, molasses, and cocoa. mouthfeel is thick. It tastes sweet and fruity with a cocoa finish. The alcohol level is very apparent throughout. It warms you right up and keeps you satisfied!

I remember cracking this that merry night, pouring it, then sipping that first sip and knowing that i had run into something great! Pours with a big beautiful brown lasting head....lacing is all that!-coco head sticks....Alcohol is very well masked for such a large abv....quite sweet!....not much balanced when it comes to sweet/bitters but for a massive beer like this, it doesn’t detract....is very intense + delicous....mouthfeel is amazing...sometimes you have to spoil yourself-..spoil yourself-..spoil yourself.......

This poured black with a surprisingly lively brown bubbly head that faded quickly. Very sweet aroma, hints of chocolate and stewed fruit and ethanol. Not as roasty as I would have guessed, and no coffee notes for me. Very sweet oily palate. Molasses, chocolate/toffee, vegemite (haven’t used that term in a while!) and fig-jam fruit with a warm alcohol finish that remains smooth and very well integrated for its calibre. Not what I was expecting, but enjoyable nonetheless.
