chawknz (2), Denver, Colorado, USA does not count Feb 15, 2007 This was the most intense beer I’ve had so far. So many different flavors hit you as it enters you month. Took me a long time to finish the glass as the beer was slightly overwhelming to me. It was still delicious, but not something I could probably have often. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Feb 14, 2007 Updated: Nov 23, 2007i’m thinking this might have been too young. aroma is fruity, with some smokiness in the background. wow is this boozy! flavour is all booze! very warm going down your throat, but aftertaste is smoky, and bitter. over a decent stout. but like i said, i think its too young.
re-rate. Batch One.
Amazing, so thick, and creamy, loadsof raosted malt, and wicked dried fruit, and coffee, and big chocolate. The extra year on the batch one got rid of the alcohol harshness i tatses on the batch two. Great stuff. TrevorFloyd (309), Connecticut, USA Feb 14, 2007 Wow, this thing is incredible. Heavy but silky, this thing explodes with chocolate and liquor flavors. Even though it tastes like alcohol, you can’t really FEEL that 16% (until later, when you might have a sudden desire for a nap). The grape and anise flavors tend to really come out after a moment or two on the tongue in a manner that is difficult to describe, they come across so intensely that you’ll swear it must be a sin of some sort. Incredible. bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA Feb 12, 2007 Aroma of alcohol and chocolate. Somehow the combination resembles lite citrus. Opaque brown color with a vigorous coffee colored head. Strong mouthfeel which thins. Starts with dark fruit, moving to chocolate and coffe, finishing with caramel toasted malt. The finish is like a hint of cherry, chocolate and coffee. The toasted malt is always there. Light carbonation. Smooth. Unique. Amazing. BlindSangamon (8), Chatham, Illinois, USA does not count Feb 8, 2007 Sweet farkin’ mother of Mephistopheles! Wretched excess carried to perfection! Words fail me - but dang! this is one incredibly heavy brew! dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 8, 2007 This beer is SCARY! The smells of cream and coffee are there and then gone by the second whiff. Sense of smell is obliterated! THe taste is smooth to start... almost inexplicable adding a depth of all the finest liquers, port, scotch, cream, coffee, and the darkest malts imaginable. Can get very bitter if ingested too quickly! Unbelieveable! The alcohol is hidden well. A truly original version of an Imperial! Fantomas23 (463), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA Feb 6, 2007 Somehow I missed rating this one the first couple of times. Still working on Batch No.1. Big. Thick. Dark. Robust. Sticky. Sweet. Still not bad after a year…but somehow I wish I could wait longer to enjoy it. Big nose of alcohol and chocolate (creme de cacao?) still overpowering. Slick, oily palate, kind of like if cough medicine came coffee flavored. A great sipper; I’ve been working on this one bottle for two hours. I think that it’s almost the perfect temperature. GaltScat (195), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 6, 2007 Batch 2 - Nov, 2006 - 12 ounce bottle. Dark as hell with a brown foamy head. Aroma of coffee, malt, hops, dark rum, and brown sugar. Flavor was strong with malt, coffee, chocolate, rum, and brown sugar. Alcohol was present in taste and palate, warming the gut as it moved on down. Very bold this was a very tasty Imperial Stout. The most significant weakness is the price, at nearly $10 for a 12-ounce bottle, this is not something to be had frequently. Also, the quality per price ration is too low compared to other Imperial Stouts like those from Bells, Surly, Stone, or AleSmith.
