Commercial Description:
Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Mephistopheles is the final installment of "The Demons of Ale" series.

Batch 1 (Jan 2006): 15.1% ABV.
Batch 2 (Nov 2006): 16.03% ABV.
Batch 3 (Nov 2007): 16% ABV.
Batch 4 (Nov 2008): 15.92% ABV.

(22oz bottle) Courtesy of gracious trader BeerandBlues2. Pours a yellow head with an opaque body. Nose of burnt caramel, nail polish, buttery malt with an aroma cantaloupe. Extreme bitter hops, oily, soya sauce. Over the top. Extreme in un-balanced. Poor performance...

Black, no head. Tar and booze aroma. Roasted malt and boozy body. Quite fun, I guess, in limited quantities.

Bottle. Pitch black, very nice creamy lasting brown head. Raisin and fig aroma, tar, sweet fruits, soy and some smoked fish. Sweet flavor, figs and raisins, sugary, alittle spicy, oily, some soy and some hoppy notes. Huge palate and alcohol is very well hidden.

Bottle. Black colour with a light brown head. Lots of taste, lots of different aromas. Slightly alcholic finish. Strong, but very good.

[-05 Bottle. Thanks Kramer] Black colour. Brown head. Rum aroma with hints of tar. Huge, fiery mouthfeel with a big sweetness. Tarry with alcohol notes. BIG flavour. Peppery and and pretty big on the alcohol. Good long finish.

Bottle poured an opaque black with a large, lasting, creamy brown head. Aromas of coffee, roasted malt, vanilla, pepper and bitter chocolate. Palate was full bodied, smooth and warming. Flavors of roastiness, coffee, vanilla, bitter chocolate, and a hint of licorice with a warming, lingering bittersweet finish.

Rating 1000!!! Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev & Dave B. -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Well here it is, my 1000th rating and the achievment of my goal to get there in under a year with a week left to spare. Thanks to Harry for sharing this bad boy and also thanks to him and the rest of my drinking buddies for all the fine beer they shared and that we shared together -- what a year!! On to the Mephistopheles: Pours a deep black with an average size brown head. Fantastic aroma of sweet malt, cocoa, caramel, dark fruit, coffee, hops, alcohol and more -- there’s lots going on here, it’s complex and it smells great. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, dark fruit, molasses, brown sugar and alcohol. Thick body and syrupy mouthfeel. A little on the sweeter side then I like my Imperial Stouts and a tad boozy, but man o’ man, this is still one kick-ass Stout and one to share with your friends.
