This beer tasted nice but I shouldn’t have ordered it after a bomber of Lagunitas GnarleyWine but whats done is done. Pours black as night with any head. Smokey 2.0 nose, is what I wrote in my notebook, which I’m guessing means it was pretty smokey. On the second smell I didn’t get much of anything. The taste has a bourbon alcholic heavy front with a nice sweet rounded middle and a warming alchol close which moves down the throat. Its a serious stout, not up there with speedway or expedition but pretty damn good. Jukkabro (3039), Tampere, Finland

Strong licoricy aroma with vinous notes, raisinny notes with vanilla, mild alcohol and berries also here. Medium to full bodied, oily palate. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 7, 2008 Bottle. Black pour, brown head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and dark toast. Flavor is overpowering and I really didnt enjoy the stouts battle with the alcohol. Way to much alcohol going on in this. presario (3002), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 12, 2006 Bottle from BeerandBlues2 [Thank you!]. Black with a rich brown head. Big aggressive alcohol, raisin and burgundy nose. Strong alcohol burn start to finish. Very sweet. Lots of brown sugar and molasses flavours, along with alcohol (of course) and licorice root.. Some hop bitterness tries to rise up but gets knocked aside by the alcohol. Definitely an after dinner sipper type. Pinball (2998), Allerød, Denmark

pitch dark, large thick smooth brown head. thick lacing and a nice colour play as the beer glides down the glass into the brown head. lovely. sweet brown sugar and licroice based aroma, also toffee, chocolate, hops (shows itself as a slight sour or acid note), you can smell i’ts strong, but i would not guess more than 10-11 pct.
flavor is fantastic. very strong and potent, and consisting of numerous flavors. licorice, roasted grains, coffee, malts, honey, brown sugar, vanilla. larsga (2980), Oslo, Norway
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 21, 2009 Small brown head. Black body. Alcoholic syrupy toffee aroma with chocolate notes. Intense dry-sweet alcoholic citric fruity roasty chalky taste with resiny notes. Sharp, hot mouthfeel from the alcohol. Dry chocolatey citric aftertaste with peppery notes. The citrus doesn’t entirely fit with the other tastes. Not bad, though. (Oslo beer junta tasting.) SledgeJr (2972), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Feb 26, 2007 At the 2007 Big Beer, Belgians, & Barleywines Festival in Vail. OUCH!!! My god. This is as black as my soul. The brown head is dramatically perched atop this abyss. Here’s how freakin’ awesome this beer is: it kicks ass at a big beer festival where all the other beers usually kick ass. This is like a coffee/molasses/vanilla Jello shot. On wheels. Flying down a dead-end street at 90 miles an hour. I got a slight bit of soy, but mostly a killer roasted tobacco blast of alcohol followed by a sweet creamy wave of malt smoothness. Lord have mercy.
