Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Mephistopheles is the final installment of "The Demons of Ale" series.

Big, black pour with tan head. I bought a couple because there was no way I could sit on this without trying it. Aroma of popcorn, smoke, and a whiskey-esque booze. Flavor of cherries, black currants, grapes, espresso, plums, ash, and tons of booze. The booziness is distracting, yet fitting for this monster. Hot, bourbon finish. Mouthfeel is heavy and smooth. This isn’t as sweet as I was led to believe. I like it fresh, and I’m sure it will take a long time to age.

Batch 2 bottle: This one pours an inky, thick, dark brown color. There is a finger of a light brown head on it. A bit of alcohol is the first thing that hits the nose. After that I get molasses, chocolate, rum, and some dark fruits also. Taste has a bit of alcohol to it. Somewhat sweet taste. Notes of chocolate, coffee, molasses, dark fruits. Silky feel on the tongue. Very Nice!

The demon on the the label looks right at you no matter where you are!!! Pours as black as any beer I’ve seen, with a thin tan head. Crazy, medicinal aroma with alcohol soaked leather, licorice, rotting plums. Extremely sweet. The alcohol is hugely prominent, particularly in the sinus. There are underlying flavors of cofee, chocolate and dark fruit. Interesting beer but I gotta say that World Wide Stout beats the shit outta it.

Jan 2006 bottle poured into a tulip. A burst of dark fruity chocolate aroma once the cap comes off. Intense aroma fills the air. Pitch black with a beautiful dark tan head. Very rich appearance. wow I took a sip of this stuff and it makes me shiver. Very sweet and fruity with hug flavors of chocoalte, coffee, more candied dark fruit, and then lots of smokeyness. Creamy with a little bit of rum flavor. Finishs with some barely distingishable hops (because everything else is so strong) and alcohol. The abv is quite well hidden though. Very thick and sweet. Damn this is good.

Whoa! This is incredibly thick and heavy!!! The aroma is robust, with a hardy dose of malts and roasted nuts, mixed with prunes and even some cocoa. Despite the eclectic mix of flavors, it all complements one another. Very oily and dark, with a dark tan head. This will age well, I suppose, which will also mellow out the astringent hotness from the high alcohol. Woody and surprisingly vinous for an Imperial Stout. Watch out for this one!

Dark black with a medium dark brown head. Rich sugery aroma of roasted malt, candy, soy and dates. Flavor is really sweet and rich with raisons, dates, soy, roasted malt and licorice. Body is kind of oily and the 15% is well hidden. Raaly drinkable for a huge beer.

12oz bottle, batch 2. Continuing on the Johnny Corkscrew/xnoxhatex, stout-a-thon/brewday. Black opaque with burnt brown small head. Doughy aroma, with roasted grain, and bourbon alc characteristics. Flavor of a lot of those big alc, liquors, mostly bourbon, also chocolate, cookie, dark grains, very tasty. Creamy, full body. Very tasty and a lot less hot than the last bottle from this batch that I tried. Overall the alc is a lot more hidden than a 16% brew should be.

Tasted blind at Sk8vikings amazing Porter/Stout tasting - Black body, big small bubbled head; Huge explosive nose, incredible deep, but the huge amount of alcohol apparent hides the complexity and makes it very hard to take apart; Very , very sweet body again lots of alcohol apparent together with just a little bitterness; Very, very long huge finish oxidized sweet, very warm, some warm fruit like sweet apple pie together with very sour apples and some licorice.
