| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 18, 2008 Batch 1, just a word of advice. Drink this when it’s fresh, this does not age well. At least the batch that I had was not that ageworthy after a year. When this is new, wow! Lots of coffee and mocha notes, with rich dark fruits, molasses and licorice, with a nose to match, the alcohol just kill this beer and throws everything else out of balance. It’s way too hot and green. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 1, 2008 Jakebra crush. Black like death. Feel the alcohol burn all the way down. One intense mofo of a beer. Flavor hides the alcohol, lots of dark fruits. One hell of a kick. Awesome brew. ehhdayton (1113), USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 9, 2006 The aroma is a symphony of chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit, and bourbon. The color is a deep rich black with a large tan head. Head retention is unfortunately short and there is no lacing. At first the flavor is a deeply sweet escence of dark fruit and dark chocolate. Afterwards a roasted malt flavor is apparent and the finish has a warming alcohol qualtiy sijmiliar to bourbon. BOLTZ7555 (1107), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 25, 2008 So my wife went to AJs, spoke with Jonpol, and he searched RateBeer to see if I tried this one. Who else has a wife that would do that...really. Thick viscous jet black pour with velvety latte head. Aroma starts with eye watering alcohol but also exhibits bitter chocolate, dark fruit and espresso. Definitely tastes more enjoyable as it warms, but its a sipper. Molasses, brown sugar, and chocolate are the most dominant flavors. More drinkable than other high ABV Stouts such as Mikkeller Black and Nogne O Dark Horizon. Not bad. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 20, 2006 Updated: May 3, 2009So I finally got it, and I went in with high expectations, and boy did Avery deliver. Pours out a dark thick black with a nice active brownish head. Aroma is roasty and sweet with some notes of chocolate and some fruit. Taste is very nice so complex. First I got a nice rich chocolate flavor that faded into some notes of caramel coffee and some dried fruit mostly some plum and maybe fig here or there with some more notes of vanilla and some mild oak and rum. Finish is sweet but sharp like a strong coffee. Very complex beer, I’d put this one on par with just about any imperial, one hell of a beer... no pun intended. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 3, 2006 12 OZ bottle via footbalm (thanks eric!). Rating #300, been saving this one for a couple months. Pours almost black with an average size tan head.Nose is mostly bandaids, medicinal, and a bit of chocolate..ooo this is scarey, lol...Taste is actually pretty good. The band aid thing is there, but there is also a nice sweet and sour chocolate/coffee/mocha plum/berry thing going on. Very unique. Very sweet and alocholic....Sort of a cross between a brett sour brew, a dopplebock and a rich Imp Stout. It works, and although i would not want more than one of these (or half of one) in a setting, it is a unique tastey beer...now if they can just get rid of the band aid aroma, lol....they will have a world class Imp Stout! Oh and at 15.1% it will $%#& you up in about a half a glass, lol!
