Aroma of coffee, malt, hops, dark rum, and brown sugar. Flavor was strong with malt, coffee, chocolate, rum, and brown sugar. Alcohol was present in taste and palate, warming the gut as it moved on down. Very bold this was a very tasty Imperial Stout. The most significant weakness is the price, at nearly $10 for a 12-ounce bottle, this is not something to be had frequently. Also, the quality per price ration is too low compared to other Imperial Stouts like those from Bells, Surly, Stone, or AleSmith. MikeMac (185), Wyandotte, Michigan, USA

Aromas were Chocolate toffee, liqorice and some spiciness in there. Flavor was not typical with a nice roast and chocolate . A little espresso in there as well with a finish of fruit and cherries. This stuff is fuggin’ amazing! Pours a dark impenetrable black with a brown, not tan, head. The aroma is dark roasted chocolate, with smoke. Lots of smoke. And it is beautiful. It is a sweet Imperial Stout - and it is very drinkable. VERY drinkable. Dangerously drinkable. Has a tart residue that fits in with the smoke and chocolate. Batch #3 from 11/07 if you care. At this point, I am in such a state of nirvana, I don’t.
Batch #3 again, 2/09 - Still roasty and ethanoly. Since then I’ve had a few others, and this is definitely an ’early’ beer until a few years from now. Chucks66 (84), Beachwood, Ohio, USA

Saved it all season of co-ed touch football and busted it out for the playoffs, won the first game but it hit me during the second. DJMonarch (6941), Northwich, Cheshire, England

Beige head. Big coffee roast aroma. Black smooth on the palate hoppy and very strong in alcohol with lots of bitterness in a lasting chocolate and coffee roast finish. jason (1626), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA

Beautiful aroma really got me hyped for this one. Send chills down my spine (or was that the wind from this cold night?). It kept a nice thin ring around the black tar pour till the very end. Flavor is very close to being a chocolate/cherry sherry flavor. Very nutty with slight carbonation that is mysteriously smooth. The alcohol is almost non-existent here. I hardley ever tasted it. I savored this one, sipped it for along while. I’m surprised this is not classified as a russian imperial. Craig thanks for the help with this #300th rating. Almost perfection. Cheers! One of the sickest labels I’ve seen on a beer. (If you’re not from Southern California, sick means cool). All giggling aside, this brew is no joke. Poured an almost midnight black with a creamy, milk chocolate brown head that thinned out and left some great lacing. Nose of alcohol, roasted coffee, cocoa dust, chocolate, and some candied dark fruits. Body was HUGE, sweet and chocolaty with a boozy bite to it. A great brew from a great brewery! Can smell Alcohol and a burnt malty sweetness. HOLY COW!!! My mouth felt heavy and creamy with a unbeliveable sweetness. It tastes better than it smells. This has just the right amount of alcohol to warm the body without it being too over-whelming. Very good Imperial stout.
