Pours a deep, dark brown color with slight mahogany edges when held to a light source and a huge 3 finger frothy tan head that has excellent retention, slowly fading to a lasting cap that leaves sporadic chunks of lacing in it’s path.
Roasted malt aroma with subtle smokiness and hints of chocolate, caramel and toffee, all balanced out by some earthy hops.
Again the flavor is dominated by a nice roasted maltiness with hints of chocolate, caramel, burnt toast, coffee, oatmeal, toffee and lots of bitter earthy hoppiness, especially for the style. Smooth, creamy medium body that is very well balanced with a nice bitter dry hop finish that counters the rich, smokey/roasted maltiness. Fratto (726), Arlington, Texas, USA

A little too thin. I rarely get such a hop characteristic in porters and I think I like it. Hopper (311), San Antonio, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 31, 2009 An IPA/Porter? A dark brown beer with a 2 finger head. Aroma is roasted & fruity. The taste is roasted, chocolate, & fruity hops. The hops are more presence in this than other porters that gives it an IPA taste which is quite unique. The mouthfeel was oily & left a nice lacing on the glass. swoopjones (1900), Buffalo, New York, USA

Toasty malt, light hops, chocolate aspects in the aroma. Fuller mouthfeel. Taste of chocolate, medium hop bitterness, extremely well balanced. Damn good porter Grizzle (45), Lawrence, Kansas, USA

Pours dark - no light getting thru this glass, baby! Khaki head, which thinned to a blotchy "rash" on the top of the beer. Lacing coats the glass up to the "high tide" line of the head. Smells of wood, hops, burned chocolate, and plum. Tastes of baking (unsweetened) chocolate, caramel, wood, and hops, with the hops giving it a bitter tangy-ness uncommon to most porters. Not a bad porter for a hops lover, but it’s nice to get a maltier, sweeter beer in from time to time. brewski519 (408), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 16, 2009 From a 12 oz bottle this Porter is black with a thin tan head. Aroma of coffe, roasted malt and smoke. Great blend of hops, roast and coffee from the first sip. Perfectly balanced with the malt, some smokiness and carbonation. This Porter definitely separates itself from the pack with the nice hoppiness. Great Porter. tedovertu (260), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA
