Bottle@Home. Strong aroma of black chocolate, coffee and black berries. Opaque, light brown head, good lace. Sweet, bitter, malty, roasted, coffe, hints of licorice and soy sauce, well hopped. Roasted dry in the finish. Flavorful and high drinkability.

Bottle. Head almost non-existant. Very dark red brown almost black body. Lowely smooth and pleasant coffee cocoa caramel aroma. Flavor mild and round cofrfee cocoa. Maybe the beer I had just before this was just too much more spicy and hoppy. Normally I would consider the Avery beers to be hoppy as well. This one seemed not to be. Low carbonation. Long sweet aftertaste.

Dark brown pour. Aromas of vanilla, chicory, caramel, hops. Added flavors of chocolate, bacon grease (in a good way), roast, hops. Well balanced and easy to drink. Packs a surprising kick, too. One of the best widely-available porters I’ve had.

I think if this beer were available to me 24/7, things would be very, very bad for me. This is really an easy drinking, full of flavor and aroma porter that was a pleasure to consume. I was lucky enough to pick up this beer on a recent trip to Hi-Time in Costa Mesa, so when I go back...if they have it I might just buy them out.

An aroma of chocolate, some soft citrusy-hop notes, some hot vanilla, and toasted bread. Appearance is damned near black with some soft reddish-brown edges and a nice tan head with some really good lacing. Mouthfeel is creamy, and smooth. Flavors had some deep roasted malt notes, chocolate, toffee, anise...even citrus hops makes a nice appearance. There’s enough sweetness left in the beer to really keep things tight. Very enjoyable porter."

(bottle): Pours a dark brownish, black. Some head, off-white, somewat lasting. Coffee malty, roasted aroma, some very dark chocolate. Coffee, roasted taste, somewhat watery. Some alcohol taste.

Pours boringl, with too much ehad into my pint glass. A darn brown bew. With two inches + of dark tan head. Smells like strong malt, and thats it. Tastes foamy, and like mild, rih barley malt, and that’s it. Finishes boring, and watery, balns, smooth. it’s a drinkable, good tasting porter, better than most of the style.

Pours dark brown (mahogany when held to light) with a sizable, creamy/frothy tan head that laces nicely. The aroma is a nice blend of chocolate and caramel malt notes, light coffee, and spicy/earthy (piny?) hops. Light to medium-bodied and fairly thin with a very slick mouthfeel, transitioning to a bitter hopped and roasted finish; very drinkable. The flavor follows the nose with a bit more emphasis on the hops: spicy hops and a pleasant blend of chocolate, caramel and coffee. This is pretty darn good stuff. I’m glad that we can get this one locally, now.

This is quite a nice porter, with some good roastiness and a nice amount of toffee/caramel character in addition to more hops than I’ve experienced previously in beers of this style. Appearance was quite dark and opaque with only a little whisp of tan head. Aroma was a bit hoppy with a good amount of caramel and some pleasant earthiness. Flavor was more caramel-y with evident hops. Mouthfeel was good but unexceptional. I’d recommend this porter. I had mine on-tap at Roman’s Pub in Milwaukee.
