This one made me remember why I loved porters. Roasty and malty qualities with a bit more caramel than I’m used to in a porter, but it worked well. Taste was heavy, but the mouthfeel was just a tad short.... could have been perfect. Alcohol was nice, almost undetectable. Great porter, highly recommended. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 15, 2006 Updated: Sep 1, 2006bottle. Aroma: Sweet malt with notes of dark cherries. Toasted nuts. Coffee and slight chocolate. Appearance: Dark brown with red highlights. Medium tan head was full and creamy. Lots of lacing. Flavor: Big toasted malt flavors with lots of caramel and chocolate flavors. A slight smokiness comes out as it warms. A slight floral/spice hop flavor detected in the finish. Bitterness sticks around for a little while. Palate: Medium-full bodied with a good creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. Overall: a robust porter that borders on a stout. Good toasty flavors and lots of depth. black95tt (82), Doylestown, Ohio, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 15, 2006 Pours a dark brown almost black color topped with a tan tinged head. Aroma is roasty with some hops shining through. Taste is standard for a porter. Nice roastiness followed by a slight hop bite. Very nicely balanced, drinkable brew. skoisirius (580), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2006 My first Avery brew! 12 oz bottle into an English Pint glass. Pours a heavy looking dark blackish brown color with a thin tanned head. The aroma is very much of roasted coffees and malts. A subtle nutty sweetness exists as well. The flavor is very nicely balanced touching on notes coffee and dark chocolates, while having a generaly roasted overtone to the whole thing. A bit creamy near the finish where a tiny hop note kicks in for a second before being swallowed by the roastedness. Definitely enjoyed this one, and am looking forward to more from Avery! elektronikfagtekniker (892), kbh, Denmark

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 7, 2006 Bottled. Dark ruby red colour, mediumsized foamy beige head. Aroma is dark chocolate and malts. Flavour is coffee, malts and chocolate. Not too much roast in it, which is a bit sad. Otherwise very nice. bhensonb (4286), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 5, 2006 Nutty, toasty aroma with maybe a hint of chocolate. Virtually no head, minimal lacing, but a reddish brown color that is magnificent. Starts with a warm cocoa flavor, passing to some sweetness, but enough hop shows up at the end to balance the whole. This may be the first ale (oops, porter) that I would credit with a nutty characteristic. The mouth feel is stout, the flavor is porter. Really a tour de force. ontario102 (794), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 1, 2006 Sweet, toasty, slightly nutty and slightly roasty aroma, some fruity hops; chocolate, caramel, plum, and date flavor over a somewhat chewy body, smooth, roasty nicely bitter finish; some eathy and musty notes. This has some stout qualities, but it’s all good to me. Very nice.
