Commercial Description:
A traditional black porter, with a surprise twist - it's dry-hopped!! We've expanded the porter category a bit, adding a delightful, dry hop aroma to blend with the sweet caramel and chocolate characteristics of a Robust Porter.

On draft at O’Briens. Pours dark brown and opaque, with a large tannish head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is roasty malts with hints of chocolate and coffee and not surprisingly, floral hops. Flavor is bitter from the roasty malts, plus the bitter of the dry hopping, tastes of dark unsweetened chocolate, dandelion milk, herbal and floral hops add an out of the ordinary tangy/bitter finish for a porter. Medium body and moderate carbonation.

12 oz. A reasonably good porter though not exceptional. Hardly "robust" as described. The dry hopping adds support to the finish but not much on the palate. Toffee and light roasted grain. A decent dry porter...

Pours a nice brownish black color. Aromas of pine hop essence, chocolate, and a hint of bitter smoke. Flavor has a burnt chocolate/coffee taste to it, nice touch of hops coming in at the end. Damn fine porter.

Very very dark brown color with a nice lasting mocha head. Aroma is lots of chocolaty roast. A very full aroma. The flavors is a beautiful blend of roast and chocolate with just a touch of dry hoppiness in the finish to clean it up. Its a big sticky on the lips, but this is a very well done porter.

Very dark brown with some rubyish glow about the edges and bottom when up to a strong light. Thin, but lasting cap of sandy browned, creamy soft and smooth foam. Nice lacing in lots of broken spotting and a few bigger strings being connected. Aroma is fair and chocolatey with a dry sense of cocoa. Dried green grassy hops add some interest. Flavor is a two fold realm of drying flavors; first with the grassy green hops which are semi pungent in a herbal-like bitterness and fairly prevalent. That hops stay to the forefront for good length while the finish only brings out the dry chocolate/cocoa enough to take a moment away from the hoppy profile. Which in this case was a bit unbalanced in flavors for me. Would’ve liked to have gotten some more sweeter chocolate and perhaps some coffeeness out of it, but non was to be found or had with these two bottles. A tiny amount of blackened/burnt malt notes sift through real late in the finish. Feel is about medium, fairly smooth, well carbonated with an overall drier tone to its character and a dry grassy hop bite and nudge thats always present. A bit unbalanced on the dry hopped end in flavor, but still a favorable porter all around.

I like hops and I like porter. Ruddy brown color that lends itself more to reddish elements in light. Khaki head forms and subsides to a thin lace on the outskirts of the pint. Roasted aromas with chocolate and hop resiny spice on the nose. One of the most interesting porters I’ve had. Sweet malty entry is quickly checked by hop bitterness and dry kilned grains. Some caramel is revealed on the midpalate, but doesn’t stay around to become cloying. Always welcome in my glass.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & Dave B. -- courtesy of biz82. Pours a deep ruby-brown with a large lasting fluffy tan head. Great aroma of chocolate, fruit, yeast, malt and hops. Nice big roasty and chocolatey flavour with significant hops and fruit -- very flavourful! Full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. An awesome Porter -- I loved it!

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy and Dave B, blankboy’s bottle. Very deep mahogany with a large tan foamy head. Aroma is roasty but very fruity - grape and appleseed, some yeast - interesting. Taste is more bitter, hints of chocolate and hops, caramel in the initial flavour, mostly bitterness in the long finish. Mouthfeel is slightly light body, astringent, somewhat lively - okay - different, not very roasty.
