Pours a deep ruby-brown with a large lasting fluffy tan head. Great aroma of chocolate, fruit, yeast, malt and hops. Nice big roasty and chocolatey flavour with significant hops and fruit -- very flavourful! Full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. An awesome Porter -- I loved it! Very deep mahogany with a large tan foamy head. Aroma is roasty but very fruity - grape and appleseed, some yeast - interesting. Taste is more bitter, hints of chocolate and hops, caramel in the initial flavour, mostly bitterness in the long finish. Mouthfeel is slightly light body, astringent, somewhat lively - okay - different, not very roasty. DCJack (146), Alabama, USA

a little smoky and dry, not as sweet as many, comparable to Yuengling Porter.
Porter is my favorite type of beer and I would consider this porter to be an excellent everyday brew.
I don’t like most of Avery’s brews, but this is one I would buy again. Beerdedone (1885), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA

Dark brown leaning to black pour with a thick khaki colored head. Fresh, chocolatey aroma with hints of fresh potting soil. Flavor is steeped in fresh roasted coffee, baker’s chocolate and fresh black dirt. Very earthy, yet refined and balanced at the same time. Mouthfeel is just a tad thin though for the richness that the flavor and aroma provides. Still, an excellent porter. puzzl (2635), New York, New York, USA

Strong bitter almost burnt flavors and the dry hopped bitterness comes through. Interesting combination. I’ll stick witht the regular "wet’hop" variety Thanks to Buck Dich or sharing this one BückDich (4854), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 11, 2006 Bottle: Dark brown blackish color, thick tan head, light lacing. The nose is ripe with the obligatory chalk, roast, chocolate and coffee. The flavor is a bit metallic as the dry hops blend with the roast, and odd creation here, but I must say it is tasty. The finish and overall mouthfeel have been improved upon. Maybe they’ve improved a mediocre porter, maybe they’ve strengthened a decent IPA, who knows.
