Aroma is caramel and sweet malts. Flavor is similar, but with a good amount of hoppiness. Moderately alcoholic and dry in the finish. Like most Avery beers, it tends a little toward the sweet side. But still a very nice winter brew. Hawksfan17 (717), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

The taste is light and smooth like a good bread with subtle sweet notes and a kick of alcohol. One fine pour. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 3, 2009 Bottle: Pours a deep amber with a finger of creamy beige head. Thick lacing. Smells of piney hops, light citrus, and a touch bready. Flavor is hoppy yet sweet from a source other than citrus. A brown sugary, caramel type sweetness... Toffee and light bready notes. Finish is a sweet and hoppy flourish. I found this to be extremely enjoyable and would have this again any time. j12601 (1327), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 31, 2009 THOUGHTS: Nice until the finish. This will really warm you up on a cold night. A little harsh, but it’ll probably age well and smooth out a little. I think I’ll put a couple away until next year, or at least until a freezing cold night this winter.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, very dark, brownish amber with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. There were also tiny particles in the body. The aroma was moderate to heavy nutty malt, very light molasses, raisins, toffee, alcohol, whiskey, hazelnut and when it warmed, light orange hops. The flavor started rather sweet and slightly bitter, and finished bitter, alcoholic and a little acidic with an average to long duration. There was caramel, whiskey, chocolate, coffee, some metallic hops and alcohol. The medium body was a little oily with tingly carbonation and a metallic and light to moderate alcoholic finish.

Good strongly nutty malty aroma, some dark dried fruits, liquorice, faint rye, nicely warming. Similar strongly caramelly flavor, herbal hops, liquorice, syrupiness. Finishes with mild warming alcohol, wood and some rust. Almost full bodied, strong lush carbonation. Whoa, just warmed me up inside out, pretty close to a BW even. jmw141 (134), Canton, Illinois, USA
