Very sweet malts, but plenty of hoppy bitterness and booze. Alcohol showing through is not a problem. Actually makes it pretty badass. Naven (876), Poway, California, USA

Gotta love the post holiday barn sales. Not a whole lot to say about this one. It’s malty, nutty and a little boozy. It’s perfect for one of those 78 degree winter nights. surffisher (196), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 23, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear translucent mahogany, with a thick, lasting cap of light tan head that leaves tremendous crusty lace. Aroma is all deep, dark malts bounding in spicy, nutty, and woody notes with some pronounced fruit notes as it warms. Full, rich flavor dominated by a toasty malt character but balancing toward bitter and boozy into the finish. Complex flavor profile, but well balanced; not jumbled. There are nuts, holiday spices (nutmeg, cinnamon), toffee and vanilla notes. Medium bodied and smooth, with a very nice warming finish. I forgot how good this stuff was...just a great example of a winter warmer. gringo332 (245), Richardson, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 23, 2009 Pours a dark copper color. Aroma is not overpowering of toffee and dull malts. Taste is amazing. Very smooth. Good brew, phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Aroma is very nutty with a little burned toast mixed in. Taste is creamy with roasted malts and strong caramel notes on the finish. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Earthy hop aroma with some alcohol. Cloudy medium brown with frothy white head. Light body and mouthfeel. Dry moderately bitter finish with some warming TaydaTot (18), Minnesota, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Jan 12, 2009 12oz brown bottle. Pours a beautiful rich dark mahogany. Huge, thick, three finger hazelnut colored head which sticks around forever and settles to a thick one finger head. Very sticky lacing. Aroma is a homerun. Chocolate desserts, nutmeg, cinnamon, chicory, dates and more chocolate. Flavor is a huge letdown. The bitterness is way over present and unwelcoming. It smells like it will be sweet and decadent but the flavors are unbalanced, the initial flavors and finish are doing way different things. Not enjoyable on multiple levels. Mouth feel is fine but the flavor, bitterness and finish kill it. Disappointing especially because the appearance and aroma were stellar. I will have to give it another chance sometime because the appearance and aroma alone is worth it. gte620v (29), Georgia, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jan 11, 2009 20oz, draft. Thick deep brown ale. Taste of alcohol is very prominent and not in a good way. there is also something sweet in the brew that is not well complemented by the biting alcohol taste. Not something I would order again.
