Commercial Description:
Our winter strong ale has a gorgeous mahogany hue, a hint of hazelnuts, and a finish reminiscent of mocha and toffee. No spices, just a perfect blend of five specialty malts. Cellarable for 2 years.

Smells of cinnamon, ginger and cherry. The malt is nutmeg. Glassy dark red, with nice lace. Nice hue, not much body. The taste is whiskey and bourbon. Cherry cordials and a roasted coffee. Dark chocolate malt. Big alcohol burn. A little saccharine, but the burnt flavor works well with it. Really bursting with strong flavors. The palate is thick and creamy. Very thick. Really sticks around on the tongue. A really nice, bittersweet beer with a nice burn. A winter warmer for sure.

Bottle sampled at Grapes of Mirth Winter Beers Tasting. I like Avery. Pour was a nice amber color. Aroma of nuts and toffee. Flavor was sweet and warm.

Light filmed mahogany with a beige wavy lace making slowly fading protector. Aroma of cereal grains, pale malt, alcohol and some sweet biscuity malt. Taste of diacetyl, sweet malt, maple, mild roasted malt, raisons, dark fruit and alcohol. Dry and semi boozy on the finish.

Sampled at Famous Liquors Holiday Tasting in Lombard, IL. Poured a clear, ruby brown, with some decent, light tan foam, and clingy ribbons of lacing. The aroma was toasty, nutty, and caramelly, with smooth malt and brown sugar sweetness. The flavor mimicked these notes well, while exposing a pleasant malt creaminess, moderate bitterness, and subtle but lurking alcohol. Medium bodied, and a fine, holiday treat

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a pint glass. The color is a dark maroon-red with a slight layer of light brown foamy head that dissipates slowly and leaves a good amount of lacing on the glass. The smell is a bit of sweet malts and has a bit of dark chocolate flavor as well. The taste is surprisingly creamy at first has some sweet tones to the flavor that gives this malty beer a zing feel. There is a bit of brown sugar and is also a bit smokey but only in the slightest. The feel of this beer is pretty pleasant, and is quite light for a winter beer that is still a bit malty. Is medium bodied and goes down pretty easy.

Moderately sweet and earthy aroma of licorice, caramel and wood. Gorgeous deep reddish brown color with a thick, rocky head that lasts beyond the final drop. Substantial lacing. Medium sweetness with hints of nuts. Substantial alcohol warmth. Full body with a hefty mouthfeel. Lively carbonation with a lasting sweet malt finish. This is a big winner. Highly recommended for those cold winter nights, or anytime, really.

12 oz. bottle, 2008. 99¢ loose bottle at Binny’s. Sweet honey smell with toffee and peanut brittle notes. Deep brown but bright color, when poured, layers of the brown head fight to get past each other. Nice nut brown malt taste. Malt sweetness with a little sugar on the side. Slightly woody or peaty. Sweetness settles out leaving me to pick out more of the complex taste. No spices, as they say, but I get a suggestion of gingerbread and pecan. Slight alcohol in the nose, and a warming of the toes after drinking half the glass. Definitely in the category of a higher-alcohol winter warmer without anything excessive.

Dark redbrown, smooth light brown head. nutty dark caramelly aroma, also some dark chocolate, some bitter hops in the background. flavor is dark caramelly sweet, dark toffee, faint roasted malts, bitter malts, faint flowery and bitter hop flavor to balance. a beer with lots and lots of taste from malts, but never too sweet.
