Jan 20, 2008 12 ounce bottle. Deep amber color and pour with an off-white head. Very flavorful beer- I taste molasses, candy sugar, plum? notes, with some woody taste. Very interesting beer. One of the best Christmas beers I have had so far.

Jan 14, 2008 12oz bottle from ucusty. Nearly opaque mahogany pour with a large and quite rocky white head. Fruitcake, nuts, candy sugar and bready yeast on the nose. Plenty of oddly put together malt. Quite dry on the tongue. Plenty of crusty and bready malt. Wood, almonds cough syrup and alcohol. Interesting but not integrated all that well and all over the map.

Jan 14, 2008 Bottle. Dark red-brown pour with a fine off-white head. Aroma is spicy and bready, caramel, toffee, smoked meat? Flavor is alright - hops and malts balance each other well. Bitter almonds, dark fruit. Slightly tinny right before the finish. Not bad, but not exceptional.

Jan 14, 2008 12 oz bottle-Pours a mohogany red color w/almost no head but decent lacing. Faint malt aroma. This one was a disappointment, just didn’t wow me or live up to the hype. Had some malt flavor to it, traces of caramel & toffee, but I just felt it was a little lacking. Not bad, just kind of bland. Avery’s always seem to be kind of hit or miss to me & I’d have to call this one more of a miss. I’d drink it if offered, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

Jan 13, 2008 Pours a deep color like a cola. Some red hues. Aroma is amazing. Smells like the condensed liquid malt home brewers sometimes use. Deep rich and syrupy malt aroma. Flavor is exactly the same. Rich, malty and bursting with flavor...mocha, molasses and maybe carmel. I don’t even get a hint of hops. Just wonderful malts. I like this one alot.

Jan 10, 2008 Bottle. Pours rich mahogany with red highlights. Poured into a Trappist so barely any head formed but a white ring is left to collect around the rim. Aromas of toffee, roasted malts, over ripened fruits, a hint of coffee beans, mocha, and alcohol. Flavor is so malty and absolutely perfect for the season. Rich with toffee, molasses, more mocha, prunes, and roasted malt fading to a nutty malt backbone. Hops appear towards the finish with some hints of brown sugar and caramel malt. Alcohol is present throughout its entirety but never once attempts to overpower the rich malt characteristics of this brew. Medium-Full bodied with a slight twinge of carbonation. Smooth and easy drinking, but rather filling.

Jan 9, 2008 Pours a dark red with off white head. THe Aroma is sweet and nutty. The flavor has a mild bitterness and hints of fruit. Really enjoyable.
