Dec 18, 2007 12 oz in a winter seasonals 12pk. Pours a dark amber/light brown with tannish head and good lacing. Aroma is hops, malt, bread. Taste is malty, earthy, nutty, and a surprising hoppy bite. Alcohol is well hidden, this is nice and unique beer - it’s unique because it’s simple, no spices. Very nice.

Dec 17, 2007 Pours with a tan head and a mahogany body (yeah I know that is what they officially say, but it is true). Malty and doughy aroma. The taste is pretty strong with a thick body. Heavy on the malts, almost a salty sort of finish. Little bit of hops do that I think. Heavy alcohol content completely unnoticeable. Little nutty with roasted flavors on the side.

Dec 16, 2007 Ruby brown color crowned by thick white foam. Sweet malty yeasty aroma. Taste is piney with noticable ginger. Palate is crisp. Sharp hoppy bite. Nice blend of maltiness and spiciness.

Dec 16, 2007 2007 version - brilliantine Mahogay with thin creamy tan head...and nice long legs
Aroma: Some treacle/toffee like notes with sherry like leaning towards tart notes
Flavor: medium-rich Malt complexity leaning towards dark malts with nutty and dark fruits (dates and dark raisins) with nice balance of spicy hop flavor.
Finish: Creamy, cocoa power and long with sizeable alcoholic warmth
Overall: I think this is a very well made beer... I know Strong Ales should have some alcoholic warmth... in this sample I am picking up some higher alcohols and the sherry notes dont seem balanced with the age of sample. If this is usual, maybe wait a while before trying it.

Dec 15, 2007 Pours clear brown with a medium head. Aroma is caramel, nuts and some grassy hops. Palette is lively with a good amount of carbonation. Flavor is a nice blend of sweet malt and bitter hops. Some roasted flavors are present, but there is no signs of the hazelnut mentioned in the description. Nonetheless, this is a very good beer and goes down far to easy considering its abv.

Dec 14, 2007 Pours nicely a deep amber brown color, with little carbonation and not much foam. The aroma is of hops and bitter. The taste is nutty and bitter. Not my favorite.

Dec 14, 2007 Bottle, pours dark brown with a nicely lasting head that has a tan color. Brown malts, slight roast, Nice taste of roasts, just slightly bitter not too sweet. Pretty solid, quite enjoyable and really 8% I couldn’t taste any alcohol.

Dec 13, 2007 Poured a dark ruby with a nice little head on top. Malty dark fruit in the nose. Tastes similar, a bit of hops. Luckily I couldn’t find any hazelnut in this, not my thing. Finished a tad watery but the alcohol wasn’t anywhere to be found. Should have bought a six pack.
