Flavour delivers what the aroma promises: Tobacco, chocolate and licorice. Nice though it lacks complexity. TheBeerOrg (1577), Kentucky, USA

Black as night pour with a clingy but thin off-white head. The aroma has some licorice accents with a bit of coffee liquor - very pleasing. Dry and chalky flavor - but in a good way. Notes of coffee, bitter chocolate and a bit of light fruitiness. Mouthfel is slightly chalky, but thick. A very good solid, belly warming stout. garretjax (103), Colorado, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 15, 2006 Deep rich brown hues. Roasted malts and almost undetectable coffee undertones. Quite thin for the way it smells. Lacks in body and mouthfeel. Bitter finish. Smells way better than it tastes. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 12, 2006 Pours midnight brown w/ a medium sized, semi creamy, spattered froth thats recedes to a few small island clusters. Aroma of sweet malted cocoa and roasted walnut shells. Medium nectar w/ mellow residual effers. Big roasted til blackened flavors up front w/ a strong bittering disposition. Moderately malty w/ typical flavors of tar, espresso, roasted cocoa, and coffee bean. The finish is strongly bittered. Overall: a highly roasted dry stout w/ some strong bittering. Not for the faint of heart. Tastes nothing like it smells.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 9, 2006 Bottle. Beautiful black pour with a creamy brown head. Essentially opaque, just barely peeking out from the bottom is a splash of ruby. Lace is magnificent. Strong roasty nose with a some lactose and chocolate. Strong roasted flavor, very dry and bitter, medium body, bone-dry roasty finish. Light hops begin somewhere in the middle and keep at it. Body is skinny and lifeless, but the taste is addictive and the lasting sour-dry bitterness is memorable. Pretty good stout, but not earth-shaking. holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Nov 7, 2006 12 oz bottle pours a brown-black witha big fluffy head that collapses leaving a patchwork of lacing. The aroma was weak chocolate and roast as was the flavor. Thin bodied both sweet and sour with a bitterness that was overdone. Unexciting and barely average.
