afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA May 28, 2008 After smelling this one I thought it was gonna be a knockout, but man was I wrong. Has very pleasant Belgian style aroma with some dried apples and apricots. The flavor is a different story altogether though with tons of unfermented sugars making it a sweet cloying mess. Harsh alcohol is present in both smell and flavor. Avery seems to have a problem with lazy yeasts because this isnt’t the first of their beers to have an overly sweet flavor. Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA May 25, 2008 Pours hazy orange gold with a thin head.
Aroma is spice bread, and yeasty apricot.
Bready caramel malt flavour, light grassy bitterness and a slightly stickey alcohol finish.
ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA May 25, 2008 I purchased this bottle in 2006. I must say the age did not treat this beer well. Gold pour with white head. spicy aroma and flavor with notable notes of cardboard leaving me to believe it is oxidized kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA May 25, 2008 50cl bottle from Countryside Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a slightly cloudy dark golden color with a thick, creamy white head. Smells sweet and flowery with notes of caramel, spice, fresh flowers, and malt. Taste is much of the same with notes of malt, caramel, spice, and fresh grass/hay. Slight but pervasive bitterness throughout and especially on finish. Generally creamy mouthfeel with slight notes of faint coffee on finish. VitaminR (422), Colorado, USA May 24, 2008 Huge spicy doughy nose. Brilliant gold color, big head, nice lacing. Sweet honey, with a nice funky bitterness for balance. Thick body, creamy viscous mouth feel, with a long complex finish. Really interesting and tasty Belgian-style ale. Almost like a high-alcohol Leffe Blonde. puggy211 (576), cordova, Tennessee, USA May 19, 2008 pours out of the bottle a dark yellow with a minimal white head. smells strongly yeasty and spicey. tastes of citrus hops, full and bitter yeast, spices, light florals and has a dry doughy finish. also some alcohol throughout. medium bodied. a nice example of a strong golden ale. Swalden28 (1439), McKinney, Texas, USA May 18, 2008 Bottle, Kegs & Barrels, McKinney, TX.
Poured a nice hazt gold with white head, ok retention. Aroma of slight bannana, malt, clove, and alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt with light notes of bannana & Clove, and other fruity notes I can not identify. Palate is medium carbonation, medium mouth feel.
greedycheater (80), Oklahoma, USA May 18, 2008 Pours a hazy golden yellow, with a stark white head that dissipates quickly. Doesn’t look like much. Aroma is biting and sharp - barley and citrus will open your eyes - something reminds me of Blue Moon, coriander, orange peel? Cloves. Wretched taste that the slight alcohol burn on the end does little to help. It’s all hopped up and salty. Bitter apricot with a bit of creamy, sweet malt (if your paying attention). Medium bodied. Remind me to stay away from Belgian-style ales, regardless of color.
