kook (2034), Perth, Western Australia, Australia Sep 6, 2006 Golden with a medium white head. Nice wheaty vanilla and spice. Some grainy notes there too. Nice but a bit clean. SilkTork (4151), Rochester, Kent, England Sep 6, 2006 Kook’s Farewell Bash. I was certainly curious to try another Avery after my experience with the Maharaja, though a little uncertain as well. I do not enjoy extreme or crude beers - big alcohol, big hops, big sweetness, big sourness. I do prefer balance and playfulness. This beer tends to the extreme in its sweetness, but is not quite as insulting as some extreme beers and is drinkable, if not - for me - that enjoyable. It’s sweet and fizzy like a Belgian pale ale or Triple, but there is a curious lack of character. While some interest is provided by a few yeast notes, the yeast itself is too clean to intrigue. The sweetness dominates and pushes me away, and the alcohol burns. Not my thing. LLee (20), Brandon, Mississippi, USA Sep 5, 2006 Bottle to glass: Aroma is that of bubble gum and of wheat malts; Appearance is a deep golden yellow; Flavor is a sweet alcohol with a spicy after taste; Palate is clean, crisp and smooth... harmfuldrunk (288), New Jersey, USA Sep 3, 2006 pours orange. taste of light malt, orange peel, apricot, very sweet, a slight alcohol taste, nicly spiced, a good one to pop. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Sep 3, 2006 From a 22 oz. gold foil wrapped capped bomber bottle, blurb along the right side of label, no bottled/freshness date, sampled from the refrigerator in a chalice.
Poured a cloudy orange with a foamy white head that settled into a thin, bubbly lacing, small amount of laced sticking.
Aromas of peppery spice, nutmeg and sugary alcohol, honey wheat malts, apricot and citrus fruity.
Good carbonation and crisp, dry and smooth medium bodied mouthfeel.
Pleasant tasting with the Avery kink, apricot, peach and orange fruity, a bit sugary, but light in the candiness, honey malts, peppery, earthy hops, a mild rolling bitterness, the alcohol is sweet and warming in the palate, and a dry earthy, peach fruity, sweet malty finish with the alcohol lingering in the palate, good strong pale ale drinkability.
I can’t believe I hadn’t try this before, a good Belgian strong pale ale with the Avery twist, worth trying.
cab (861), Denmark Sep 1, 2006 Bottle. They do make the best range of beers from one singel brewery, orange in color, sweet, fruity, one nice beer. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Aug 26, 2006 Pours clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is spicy and fruity with some Belgium earthiness - there is also some peppery aspects. Farily forceful and rich for not being bottle conditioned. Medium / full body with lots of carbonation.Taste has crisp fruitiness with a spice bite and some metalicnes. There is some Belgium feel to it, but with this not being bottle conditioned it takes away from what it could be. Finish adds more spice and some hops. This is a good deal for the price tag, but it is obviously an interpretation - there is no mistaking this for a Belgium classic. zach8270 (2051), Henrietta, New York, USA Aug 16, 2006 Updated: Dec 31, 2008(bottle - 22 oz) Coppery orange in color with a thin and lasting white head and decent carbonation. Aroma is very sweet and fruity with hints of apricots, peaches, candy sugar, alcohol, some spices, and yeast. Flavor is very sweet at the front with a slight hint of spices underneath. The middle is fruity and sweet with some peaches and cinnamon. The finish is medium-bodied, spicy, and bitter. The bitterness lingers for a bit and the flavor dies away kind of quickly.
