schwaiger (90), Laramie, Wyoming, USA Jun 2, 2006 Bomber. Poured an oily light bronze with a small, mostly diminishing white head. Moderate maltiness and hops in the aroma; smells of sugar, peach schnapps, alcohol, resin, and milkweed or thistle. Moderately sweet, lightly bitter in the fore, moderately bitter, long finish with some metal. Lightly carbonated, medium body, somewhat dry. This really tasted like Samael knocked down a notch, with most of the demon’s endearing charcteristics filtered out the bottom. It’s didn’t taste good, and it’s palate was yucky. Nothing about this beer made me want to finish the glass. As much as I want to like Avery, they’re making way too many of these "strong" beers that completely miss the mark, trying to substitute raw power for the finesse that is the hallmark of a good brewer. Matthew 6:7 "...for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking." This beer has nothing to say, but it insists on saying it anyway, and at an annoyingly high volume. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 1, 2006 Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Pours copper with a white head. Aroma of citrus, fruit, and hops. Flavor is wood, citrus, and fruit. Very nice brew. gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA May 28, 2006 From bomber. Poured a yellow/orange with minimal white head. Nose was honey and a little fruity. Flavor followed with a bit of yeast presence. No alcohol detectable. Enjoyable. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA May 26, 2006 Updated: May 29, 2006Clear golden color with thin white head. Aroma of sweet candy/cane sugar and malt plus a bit of fruit. The taste is light and fresh. Didn’t realize it states 9% ABV on the bottle until I was half way thru the 22 oz. bottle. Really don’t sense the alcohol. I taste sweet candy sugar, banana, spice and some hop bitterness. This Belgium beer doesn’t have the somewhat typical sour tang. I’m not a Belgium beer aficionado but I’d place this beer at the top right behind Orval and Chimay Triple (draft) of the beers I’ve tasted. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA May 12, 2006 Pours a deep golden orange color. Aromas of fruit, sweet malt, yeasty. Flavor is lightly fruity with a sweet malt middle with a slight spicy finish. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark May 4, 2006 Small light tan head, slightly hazy orange golden body. Fruity and yeasty aroma on the sweet side, very Belgian. Sweet fruity and candied flavor with some light spices and a yeasty note. True to its Belgian origin though a tad too sweet, which makes it a bit cloying in the long run. cewldre (268), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 3, 2006 Tasted at pub tasting. Poured a yellow gold with a smaller head. There is definitely an aroma of fruits and spice. Can taste the alcohol a small amount. Bigsilky (322), Charleston, USA May 1, 2006 As per usual my general complaint about American brewed Belgian beers. Why oh why did they not referment in the bottle? The CO2 is too low and no real head forms, and if it does is quickly disappates even with the most vigorous of pouring. The beer is entirely too sweet haveing not been fully attenuated. The color, however, is spot on and the beer, even lacking the head looks pretty darn good. Dryed apricots and some candied pears can be found on the palate and some spice is detectable. It is all overwhelmed with alcoholic warmth that doesn’t really play on the field but yells from the sideline.
