SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA Dec 23, 2005 Shimmering gold pour with a creamy white head. Funky, spicy Belgian yeast aroma is quite fitting, but overpowers the sweet fruitiness that is present as well. The body is rich and thick, heavily malted from beginning to end. Baked apples, cinnamon, sweet pears are all there. There is a bit of an overload of hop bitterness in the finish, which seems a bit out of whack for the smooth style. Otherwise, pretty solid stuff that I would like to throw in the cellar for a few years. MrWalker (927), Stockholm, Sweden Dec 22, 2005 Bottle @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm Had just a smallish glass of this but to me this is a generic belgo tripple with a wheatbock character. Hoegaarden Grand Cru on steroids. More hops than the average tripple but close to no aftertaste. GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 16, 2005 Sample at DougShoemaker’s 2005 December gathering - not sure who brought the bottle. Golden-orange with a small white head. Aroma is sweet, but with some juicy hop notes as well. Flavour is quite agressive, but well balanced, with sweet malts and citric hops playing off each other nicely. Impressive stuff. BobbyW3363 (154), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Dec 16, 2005 Sweet aroma, golden orange color, white foam head. Nice spicy and fruity Belgian taste. An exellent Belgian-style ale. JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Dec 12, 2005 Clear gold beer, good white head, heavy pearling. Light sugar, just a hint of coriander, a tad of cookies, rather sweet-oriented, but all very restrained. Apricot, dried mango, sweet, but alcoholic-brandy like; pineapple retronasal, very yeasty even when the beer is 100% clear. Alcoholic, alcoholburn and lighter in body because of the ABV. This is some Tripel. I’m told it’s drier on draught, less sweet, but still I’m impressed. Great - exept for the nose. The label is art in itself. Holsten (7), Copenhagen K, Denmark does not count Dec 12, 2005 Colour like an Austrian horse (golden with white head).
Nice fruity aroma.
Sweet, fruity and yeasty taste. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 11, 2005 Bottle at Doug’s Christmas 05. Dark yellow, small white head. Strong alcohol aroma, some yeast. Nice balanced strong golden ale taste. Medium mouthfeel. Pleasant floral hops at the end and lingering yeast and bread. A really wonderful strong golden ale! blankboy (3157), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 11, 2005 Bottle at ’December at DougShoemaker’s 2005’ -- courtesy of ?. Pours a clear dark orange with an average size white head. Aroma of fruity malt, hops, yeast and spices. Flavour of malt, a surprising amount of citrus hops, yeast and alcohol. Full bodied. Nice!
