segfault (98), Centennial, Colorado, USA Nov 24, 2005 Pours golden, white head. Aroma of sweet malt and hint of spices. I did not detect the claimed apricot/peach. Flavor is bitter, malty sweetness, and esters. Really, even though I love double IPAs and very hoppy beers, for a Belgian Strong, this is WAY too hoppy (bittering hops) for the style, and being so out of balance ruined what would have otherwise been an amazing Belgian strong. Probably cellering 2 years would cause the hops to fade enough to make this beer very very nice, but the hop is too much fresh. Pernille (518), Copenhagen, Denmark Nov 20, 2005 Clear, copper color. Offwhite head with lacings. Aroma of yeast and tangerine. Dry, hoppy flavor. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 19, 2005 (Bottle 65 cl) Beautiful, clear amber with a handsome, creamy head. Fruity, lightly sweet aroma. Flavour is dominated by sweetish, caramelish notes with an almost floral touch. Discreet bitterness. 181105 tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Nov 17, 2005 Very clear golden color with a quickly disappating head, however, the lace on this is impressive. Aroma: Fruity, Doughy, Vanilla. Flavor: spice, vanilla, however, a bit cloying. So so beer...I expected better given the high ratings. I do have to say that this does get better as it warms and if you can get through cloying taste. DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Nov 13, 2005 Very malty aroma with a bit of fruit, Golden amber, pours a small custard head. Malt and some citrus flavour. Full bodied, alcohol is quite noticeable. Good, though a note to the brewer and or brewery, bigger isn’t always better.
Thanks You mds. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 11, 2005 bottle. I picked this up in Phoenix in December 2004 so it’s at least 11 months old - probably older. clear copper body with a small whitish head. aroma is fairly hot with malt, yeast, and pear notes. body is fruity yeast and fairly warm. somewhat thin and lacking any depth. once again, the alcohol is felt in the finish. some Belgian-style characteristic bread flavours. it’s good, but it could have been much more! ehhdayton (1113), USA Nov 8, 2005 Salvation has a nice fruity aroma. A mixture of spice compelements the aroma. The color is a nice golden with a thick light golden head. There is some lacing but, not miuch. The taste on the palate is a subtle fruitiness and finishes clean on the palate, with some cloying. IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA Nov 8, 2005 I was little afraid of this one because you know it’s gonna be boozy, it’s just a matter of how boozy it’ll be. mds said the bottle was at least a year old so that’s was a decent sign. Golden in color, slight haze, firm white head, lots of lace. Fruity aroma, some Belgian yeastiness, light spice. Yeasty flavor, fruity again, very light alcohol. Fuller bodied, ther alcohol was hardly detectable. Oh my goodness, a big beer by Avery that didn’t taste like fire water! It was pretty good, too.
