Commercial Description:
The success of HOG HEAVEN and THE REVEREND clearly demonstrates that beer drinkers are willing to embrace "BIGGER" beers. In the fall of 2001, we decided that a lighter BIG BEER would complement its darker colored predecessors. Salvation has luscious apricot and peach aromas delicately interwoven with spicy suggestions of nutmeg and cinnamon. This heavenly soft, champagne-like elixir is cellarable for 3 years.

Hmm, well I’m not really sure what the big deal is with this one. It approximates the good Belgians, with light phenolic and banana notes, along with a fairly interesting hop aroma, piney and almost citric. Further, there was a bit of a strong and simplistic caramel note, so that in the end, this seemed too sweet and lacked the fluffy body of the great examples. Also, I noticed this had no yeast sediment at all, and poured a very bright and crystal clear orange color.

Pours clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is spicy and fruity with some Belgium earthiness - there is also some peppery aspects. Farily forceful and rich for not being bottle conditioned. Medium / full body with lots of carbonation.Taste has crisp fruitiness with a spice bite and some metalicnes. There is some Belgium feel to it, but with this not being bottle conditioned it takes away from what it could be. Finish adds more spice and some hops. This is a good deal for the price tag, but it is obviously an interpretation - there is no mistaking this for a Belgium classic.

Bottle shared by <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?U target=blank> mds, thanks Mike. Golden amber in colour, thin off white coloured head, some patching lace. The aroma was of citrus (mainly orange zest), apples, yeast, light alcohol. The flavour had some noticable caramel malt sweetness, light spice, citrusy, floral, some yeast, alcohol warmth. Soft bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a light sweetness, lingering.

22oz bottle - Pours golden with a moderate head. The pleasant aroma is of yeast and citrus. The palate was lively and the finish fairly crisp. I didn’t think the alcohol presence was too strong at all. However, even though I have a sweet tooth when it comes to Belgian ales, I did think this one was TOO sweet. I think a bit less candi sugar would be a good idea. The sweetness was rather cloying. There are some good spice notes though. Overall it’s a solid ale, though not a great one.

Bottle at Brewtopia ’04. Little head above a clear, deep yellow body. Hop aroma is a little much for the style. The flavor is spicy, playing between clove, corriander and orange in the background. O.K., but not hitting the mark dead on.

On tap at Vintage Estates, great place, thanks Ron, I mean Nuts. Starts off with a big and creamy alabaster head then the head fades to a steady quarter inch. Otherwise this stuff looks like ubiquitous pale yellow american beer. Below average carbonation initially on the tongue. Starts off pretty hoppy but that evolves into a more friendly fruity feel. Each sip after the other seems less bitter than the first. Tends to get better tasting and more enjoyable as the session continues. Must be that numbing effect of the alky content. Finish is quite alcoholic.

Fruity, spicy, perfumy and honeyish aroma, with something like sparkling white grape juice, peach and golden apple, and a very slight earthiness. Golden amber in color, with a quickly fading head and low visible effervescence. Flavor is fruity, citric, malty and sweet, with some definite spices and pepper in the background. Finish sees the addition of some acidity and bitterness, also apparent alcohol. Fruity aftertaste. Pretty good but probably could have used another 18 months in the cellar.
