It smelled pretty good and the appearance was nice, but the taste was just too alcoholic. I would say if that was toned down a bit, this would be an above average beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2004 Not a bad tripel but not a great one. Actually, it’s hard to call it a tripel at all given that it lacks a certain Belgian yeast character (like it’s brother the Reverend). Slightly hazy golden orange color with a quickly diminishing head. Nose is sweet, lightly spicy. Mouthfeel is nice and thick but just a bit lacking in carbonation. Very lightly tart with a stronger-than-expected woody bitterness in the finish. elihapa (1069), Honolulu, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 21, 2009 Avery Salvation 2/20/09 (bottle, shared at tasting. Pours havy orange with a soap-like, big bubble head. Aroma has some candy sweetness, fruit and bubble gum. Palate is soft, medium-thick, and only moderately carbonated. Finish maintains sweetness, while yielding some alcohol flavors. A little boring for a Belgian strong ale. obguthr (1068), Poquoson, Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 1/5 | 13/20 | Jul 8, 2009 Moderately strong mixture of DMS, babyfood, and peaches on the nose. Cloudy golden, medium head, nice lacing. Baby food and vinous peaches. I thought I tasted chlorophenols, but maybe not. This is the second straight beer I’ve had that fizzles out in the end. I will say that I like this better the more I drink it. Alcohol is concealed but barely noticeable. Avery is not one of my favs and there are a few more on deck Ugh... Maybe I’ll find one I lke. No freshness date seen. Poured out a cloudy, slightly burnt orange color, with no head whatsoever. It left a decent lacing around the edge of the glass, but that's about it. Aromas of peaches, apricots, some malts, but not much in the way of hop aromas. Yeasty, bready, and fruity tasting. Low carbonation in my batch. Medium mouthfeel, neither thick nor thin. Biscuit tasting, dry in the finish.
A decent effort from Avery. jb (1059), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 2, 2008 Nice looking bright orange with foamy head that recedes quickly and leaves some lacing. Aroma of banana, butterscotch, apples, sour and yeasty. Feel is rich, sticky, boozy but in a good way. Tastes of cinammon, alcohol, it is really good. bigrond (1055), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA

But it does go down easier than - ’the reverend’ from avery. My favorite avery product has got to be the ’ The Kaiser’. papajohn (1055), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 9, 2004 Clear golden amber color with a moderate egg shell white head. Flowery mint leaf aroma. Flavor is moderately complex with mint leaf, a touch of honey, some light lemon with a lingering mouth watering spicy dry aftertaste. Palate is smooth and creamy. Interesting, but not my favorite flavor combo.
