| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Apr 28, 2008 Bottle (bottled 2005). Wooden vineous and buttery aroma. Hazy red, low head. Candy sweet entry, vanilla, mint, caramell, raisins, rich portvine-like notes. Cloyingly sweet - too many residual sugars IMO. Medium body, slick, oily, not chewy. citric notes retronasal. I really did not find this particulary harmonic and enjoyable, sorry. mcox90 (646), Wilton, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 28, 2008 A big thanks to Mcbackus for this gem. Poured a beautiful hazy copper color with a 1/2" off white head and thick sticky lace coating my snifter. Nose is mild wood with dark fruits and caramel. Mouthfeel was thick ,sweet & chewy. This is a very sweet brew with the dominating flavor being the caramel. Also, flavors of raisins, dates, figs, plums, cherries all soaked with alcohol. This ones a sipper. I’m really beginning to dig barleywines. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Clear copper body with a medium frothy off-white head with great lacing. Huge oak aroma with some caramel, raisin, rum-soaked fruit, and molassas. Big oak flavor, some pepper, caramel, vanilla and fruit. Medium full body, moderately low carbonation, and a sticky syrupy finish. johndavidj99 (123), Township, Maine, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 24, 2008 Yuck. This was an unfortunate drain pour for me. I aged it 6 months too! It is that typical high alcohol content smell/taste that has a bad sweetness. It is similar to D’extra and Beast. Not up my alley. jbrus (4883), Delft, Netherlands
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 22, 2008 Bottle@Home. Complex aroma with leather, oak, vanilla and raisin. Orange/red color, small beige head, good lace. Very sweet, bitter, raisin, caramel, vanilla and pepper. Sticky and syrupy. Complex, nice balance, overwhelming flavors. craftbeerdesign (755), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Apr 19, 2008 bottle, batch 2. excellent. Samaels fits the English Barley Wine style quite well... extreme sweet malt presence, lots of caramel and oak in the nose as well as alcohol. the alcohol in the aroma almost burns your nose... nice and smooth over the palate with a touch of spice on the tip. vanilla, caramel, oak, bourbon, and sweet malts dominate the palate. great finish with a touch of alcohol burn down the throat with a sweet heavy syrupy dark fruit presence in the back. drinks like a fine cognac. absolutely wonderful.... get some if you can.... it’s worth the $8/bottle. It is kind of like a slimmed down, cheaper Utopias. BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 18, 2008 This is one of the better beers in the line-up, definitely the best of the Demon series, because one one reason, there is not a shitload of hops in this. I really enjoy the aroma here, some dark fruits and vanilla, with just a hint of wood. A little on the sweet side, bordering on cloying, but not quite, still a bit out of balance on the alcohol, it is quite hot, I think some of this will mellow out with age though.
