Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Feb 14, 2008 Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Rich mahogany appearance with a frothy tower of beige. Aroma is thick and heavily sweet with suggestions of steak sauce, vinegar and metal framing the body of seared brown sugar and alcohol; very dry. Similar taste is very plain and powerfully sweet, with melted caramel, toffee, and cheap whiskey, with hints of bubblegum and rum; only lightly vinous. Palate is slick and alcoholic, although the booze is not as bombastic as might be expected; heavy in body, presumptuous and demanding. Obvious, overdone, and not challenging in any respect except concerning the act of swallowing; not worth the effort. OSLO (825), Perth, Australia Feb 13, 2008 [Bottle] Pours clear amber with a yellowish off-white head. Aroma is fairly sweet with caramel and vanila coming through. Far too much alcohol in the taste, and too sweet for me. There is an unusual taste also present--I can only describe it as plasticy, and am not sure what it is. Medium-thin mouthfeel. Too much alcohol and too sweet, but better than Samael. Ramenen (453), San Salvador, El Salvador Feb 7, 2008 Thanks to my parents who brought it all the way down from Clearwater Fl. I recommend that you let this beer breathe for about 10-15 minutes. Very warming, pleasent, deliciously malty and tangy. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Feb 5, 2008 thanks to mcbackus for the bottle.
batch 3 from 2005.
pours a very dark brown/ruby color. very small head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is super sweet, raisins, plums, figs, caramel, cognac, and alcohol. Flavour is again VERY sweet, with a strong cognac flavour that is LOADED with ripe dark fruit, and sugar. This is a super sweet beer. The finish is big on molasses, and you can feel the alcohol warming all the way down. This is definitely a BEAST of a beer. Sit down, sip and enjoy this one. HopheadHans (753), Bay Area, California, USA Feb 3, 2008 Bottle. Batch from 2007. Pours with an orangish color and not much of a head. Strong aromas of alcohol and sweet fruit.
Candylike flavors with some alcohol hotness. When it warms up it becomes almost too cloying. I am not as enamored with it as most people, I just find it too sweet ghawener (952), San Salvador, El Salvador Feb 2, 2008 Batch 5 Bottle, Thanks to Ramenen had it for my 36th birthday: A real beast drink with care at 16% it is very well balanced, complex licorice, woody and oily tones. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Jan 31, 2008 Bomber (Batch 2). Pours a clear ruby copper color, transient patches of off-white head swirl and disappear. Sharp alcoholic aroma with raw sugarcane, allspice and dark fruits all attempting to get out. Again, a blast of alcohol on the taste, heat and pepper, the finish has a helping of hops soaked in cognac. Still some life on the palate. Once you consider that this is 18%, this brew has a good amount of character that comes out. xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Jan 29, 2008 Updated: Jul 26, 2008Nov. 2005 bottle, sampled Jan 2008
Jesus God, this was one of the best beers I have ever had. Aroma is sharp sherry and heaps of dark ruby fruits.
Almost no head, deep molasses and amber color.
Taste is a touch salty and very bright berries, like an Apis Jadwiga. Obviously I get some honey out of this beer too. This is like a beer, port, and mead all put together. I’ll call it Avery’s More Powerful than Mead, Beer, and Port All Put Together. Palate is still slightly fizzy and alcoholic with whispers of the belgian yeast spiciness still present.
World Class and terribly underrated.

Jesus, this is still amazing. Having this beer currently.
Bright red fruit, acetone in finish aroma and flavor, but it WORKS!
Finish is slightly cloying with dull hops.
Sweet caramel malts, some hop bitterness and higher alcohols.
This beer is nearly perfect.
If I had to drink one beer for the rest of my life, this is it.
