Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Aug 24, 2009 12 oz bottle from Market of Choice, batch 4. Aroma was hefty on prunes, dates, molasses, caramel. Very sweet and appetizing smelling. Flavor was also very sweet, full of dark fruit, caramel, candy sugar and molasses. The booze was extremely well hidden, probably muted with the three years behind it. I could have drank another bottle of this, though that likely would have put an end to my night. Extremely tasty brew. nerdrocker101 (102), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 22, 2009 Bottle. Batch 6. Pours a ruby brown with a thin head. Plenty of alcohol on the nose along with some dark fruit and sweet notes. Mostly sweet to the taste. Flavors of plum and toffee. The alcohol warms. The texture is thick and syrupy. This is certainly a strong ale. Definitely meant to be a sipper. Enjoy it uhre (339), Denmark Aug 18, 2009 From 2005 tried august 2009. The Aroma is full of alcohol, but also prunes and caramel behind it. There is a small head and the colour is amber. Flavor is of caramel and a bit of alcohol - very sweet and thick beer. drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 14, 2009 Got this at the Liquor Box in East Moline, IL before they unfortunately had to close. I didn’t take good tasting notes about it - but it bowled me over, to say the least. CheersMate1 (766), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 8, 2009 Picked up at a secret location. Batch 6 bottled in 2008. Glad to have purchased this except for the high price ($10.99 per 12 oz.) Dark caramel translucent brown. Very pungent. Big caramel malt aroma, not bad with the alcohol I must say. Nice aroma. There is also a slight sweet aroma. For this much alcohol the aroma isn’t bad. Big sweet flavor up front. The alcohol does burn, but this beer has a nice soothing sweet flavor. Nice fruit flavor as well. The alcohol warms everything up. Maybe if I were to have tried this in the winter it would be a bit different but this is 90 degree weather. Sweet malt flavor dominates. Starts off with the malt sweet flavor, and then the burn sets in. Very smooth beer, but again the alcohol is slightly intrusive. Overall, pretty good brew. poisoneddwarf (153), Rathdrum, Idaho, USA Aug 7, 2009 12 oz bottle. Trying to review this without typos. As anyone who has had this beer will know, it will knock you on yer arse. Strong molasses, raisin, and brandy flavor and aroma. This is the strongest beer I’ve ever had at 16.31% alcohol. This is batch 6. I can’t imagine ever buying this regularly, but it’s nice for special occasions, like my birthday, which is today. Interesting brew. Happy birthday to me! MarinaMarket (31), Washington, USA Jul 17, 2009 Another superb specialty beer from Avery. Batch 6 is a sweet beer that is hard to pin down. All sorts of stuff going on in there, and very enjoyable. My Lord these guys are good. Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jul 13, 2009 2008. Pours an amber body with a creamy, foamy beige head. Smells of caramel, malt, roast, toffee, ripe fruit, little sour. Flavor is roast, toast, toffee, coramel, little nuttiness. Finish isn’t overly hot given the ABV and sticky sweet. A lot going on with this beer. Almost like a mix of an imperial IPA and belgian trippel. I really enjoyed this.
