DaMenace123 (250), Houston, Texas, USA Oct 20, 2006 Sample at Central Market. Dark amber color with sweet smell. Very sweet taste of molasses. Too sweet for my taste. JK (2946), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Oct 13, 2006 Thanks to Joebrew for this one. Exceptional. This beer has one of the best aromas I have ever found. Loaded with yeast, wheat, and lots of fruit. Appearance is ordinary and misleading; it doesn’t give any indication of the tremendous flavors that will follow. This is a very sweet beer, almost a dessert beer. There is some sensation of alcohol on the palate but it is well hidden in the flavor and aroma. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Oct 11, 2006 2006 Bottle. Thanks to YourDarkLord for bringing this out, even when there was plenty beer still on the table. Pours copper/ bergundy with a wisp of a white head. Sweet plummy and alcohol nose. The sweetness really hits you up front, with flavors of port, raisens, honey. Some spicy cinnamon hotness on the finish. Not bad, but a litte too sweet for my personal taste. Arayaga2 (933), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2006 This refers to the 2005 version. Very malty nose emanates from this dark honey colored beer with thin tan head. Woo, this is sweet stuff! Tastes like a barleywine to me with its rich plum taste, and it lingers like a cough syrup. $6/12oz Boutip (2334), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Oct 6, 2006 Bottle courtesy of Brentfeesh: Poured a deep clear burgundy color ale with a small slightly-off white foamy head with average retention. Aroma of sweet cookie dough with some plums and dry fruits is quite pleasing. Taste is mostly dominated by the sweet (maybe too sweet) cookie dough malt and plums, which are quite pleasant, but also a strong shot of alcohol which I couldn’t cared for and kind of ruin it for me. This beer remind me of a 50/50 mix between a sweet barleywine and a strong Belgian ale but really lacking in balance. Body is too light and less filtration would have benefited this beer. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Oct 5, 2006 12 oz bottle. Pours amber with a medium off white head. Huge aroma, alcohol, fruits, and sugar. Taste is sweet honey and malts with spicy hops and lightly bitter, full thick syrupy body with sweet fruit, and some alcohol burn in the finish. TheEpeeist (1430), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 2, 2006 12 oz bottle, 2005. Clear rosy brown with a tan head and lacing. Closer inspection reveals a suspension of tiny particles. Caramel, apple pie and sherry. Very sweet up front; honey, grape soda and port wine. A touch of carb helps cut through the cough syrup body. Finishes with rum raisin and fruit cake. Too much sugar, too much alcohol. I tried this about nine months ago and tastes much the same except slightly more cloying and concentrated. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Sep 29, 2006 12 oz. bottle, Batch 3. Deep amber/brown, medium light beige head. Vinous nose with some sour notes, and aromas of dark fruits. Rich, thick mouthfeel, very little carbonation. Sweet flavors of grape, raisin, caramel, and dark brown sugar give this a port or maeira like quality. Some bitterness in the finish that is quite persistant, but yielding to the sweetness. Alcohol is quite evident throughout. Best drunk slowly over a long period after dinner.
