bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Jun 27, 2006 Wow... gotta prepare the palate for this one! (It really reminds me of a barleywine instead of a BSA.) Anyhoo, it pours without a head, very little carbonation, and muddy deep mahogany. Definite caramel, toffee and alcohol to the nose. Syrupy sweet caramel, honey, toffee, figs, raisins, dates, molasses, brown sugar, heavy malts and alcohol flavors. The mouthfeel leaves the palate thickly syrupy and burning with lots of alcohol. This is only to be appreciated in a large-mouth glass (I used a tumbler), as it really can’t be appreciated fully any other way. The bouquet needs time to open (getting more alcoholic and astringent as it warms), and the longer it sits, the more the nose will integrate with the huge flavors. This is a very big beer; truly a sipper, but one for special occasions. mkgrenwel (420), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Jun 26, 2006 Super sweet and fruity. Flavor of cherries and strawberries. Tons of alcohol. Sticky and syrupy. Actually reminds me quite a bit of cherry nyquil. Almost the same mouthfeel and flavor. Even has that same persistent alsohol warming. Does have some dried fruit and spice to add to the complexity and make it a huge improvement on nyquil. Ends up a pretty good beer. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 24, 2006 What in the world is this. Pour a dark dark red color. Aroma was of dark fruits and malts. Flavor was like a barleywine, yeast dark fruits and hop finish to it. Took me about 45 minutes to drink this one. Avery misses on most of their beers. and for the price this one is way way off. BeerRules (237), Houston, Texas, USA Jun 23, 2006 Aroma of honey and dark fruit. Tastes of mad sweetness, dates, slight berryness, spicy hoppyness, and grape jelly. Mouthfeel is syrupy, carbonation light. Mad alcohol burn on the finish. A sipper, not bad i guess. HDane (81), Chesapeake, Virginia, USA Jun 22, 2006 Updated: Jun 27, 2006From bottle, batch 3. Nose is exquisite - overall sweetness, apples, alcohol. Flavor is outstanding, much of the nose appears, as well as some caramel, and brown sugar. Feels very smooth on the palate - the alcohol does rear it’s head a bit, but not as much as you’d expect for a 14.9% beer. A superb addition to the Demons of Ale series from Avery. gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA Jun 22, 2006 From bottle, batch 3. Pours a dark ruddy brown, with thin tan head. Vinous nose with alcohol. Figs, apple vinegar, syrupy, tobacco, intermingling with other fruits. Flavor is more of the same wonderful complexity, with an alcohol heat. Palate is smooth and lightly carbonated. A huge beer that should only improve with age. drainey (231), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 16, 2006 12 oz bottle. Medium amber body with a very small head. Strong aroma of syrup and caramel. Taste is very, very syrupy sweet with a strong alcohol hit. Silky smooth palate. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA Jun 14, 2006 (05.04.06) One pint, 6 oz brown bottle from DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. 18.1% ABV. OG 1.138. Bottled 2004 (Batch no.2) . Poured clear amber with small white head. Soft carbonation. Fruity honey aromas. Medium-to-full bodied ale that starts with moderate malt sweetness. Honey, fruit, raisin and spicy flavors. Finished with light malt fade. Definite alcoholic warmth. Smooth, thick and syrupy, like light maple syrup. Mead-like liquor in flavor and texture. This is an awesome powerful ale that is best consumed after dinner.
