peter (385), Dallas, Texas, USA Apr 5, 2006 Batch 3. Thin head with beer bottle brown body. Nose is all heat, some brown sugar and cinamon hidden. Mouth is sticky and hot, foamy. Flavour is heat maple syrup and orange. Unbalanced. jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA Apr 1, 2006 Like a candied, mascerated date -- this beer is full of drak fruit, cherries, dates, plum and apricot, along with alcohol, caramel and molasses, and rye. Small bubble and an infectous head that surges across the surface of the beer once it is poured. Surprisingly amber. Perhaps this specimen should have aged more, because its sugars are still very present and the alcohol masks the complexities. Aromas are piney and sweet. Then the palate is viscous and lasting. The maple syrup smack to the beer kind of cheapens the extensive work that must have gone into this creation. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Apr 1, 2006 Updated: Jan 16, 2009Bottle on 11/30/2008 at the 3rd Annual Richmond Industry Gathering. Bomber from first year of bottling. Clear golden body with a thin tan head. Big caramel, molassas and alcohol aroma. Huge caramel and sugar flavor with more alcohol. Medium full body with low carbonation and a syrupy finish. 8/3/8/3/15 - 3.7
04/01/2006: 14.9% ABV. Clear dark amber color with a thin fully diminishing white head. Dark malt, caramel and a hint of molassas aromas. Sweet syrupy flavor, noticable fruit, with hints of caramel and light molassas. 7/4/8/3/16 - 3.8 Belgo (145), Køge, Denmark Mar 31, 2006 Ooomph!!! Pours an extremely thick amber-brownish with not much of a head (it actually makes no sound at all as it is poured into the glass).
The aromas are heavier than heavy!! Primarily raisins, dried dates, moscovado sugar, coriander, oranges, apricots and a brandy-like hint of alcohol.
Thick and massive on the palate, it coats the tongue in sugar and delivers flavours of honey, apricots and a vinous aftertaste that lasts forever. This is truly an impressive and amazing beer, but also one where I wouldn’t want to drink more than - at most - a third of a bottle. tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Mar 25, 2006 Pour the color of cherry wood with a smallish light beige head. Aromas of soy sauce, and sugar. Lots and lots of sugar. We are talking friggin’ Wonka sugar. Guess what. Tastes like sugar too. I got a golden friggin’ ticket. Nutty, english toffee, some grapey notes, and wood. Alcohol was apparent, but blended well. Full and rich on each drink. Rolls over the tongue and slowly fades away. Takes a while to drink, but it is worth every second. crzybob77 (528), Richmond, Virginia, USA Mar 20, 2006 Wow, i dare you to keep a straight face when you drink this. Honestly, I have the same majoy complaint that i have with most crazy high alcohol beers like this.... it is just too damn sweet. Obviously the taste is full of alcohol, but it just has an unbearable thick syrupy sweetness that just doesnt agree with me. More power to you if you like this beer, i guess i am not man enough for it. CMUBEERMAN (415), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Mar 20, 2006 Wowza...that’s a strong beer. Pours a dark gold and has no head. Smell is tons of dried fruit and alcohol...a bit of malt too. Taste is tons of dried fruit and alcohol...very very sweet...there is a bunch of complexity...but it seems a bit overpowered (and that’s an understatement). Mouthfeel is syrupy. Kind of a chore to finish. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Mar 20, 2006 Updated: Mar 21, 2006Pours a dark mahogany, no head. Big sweet alcohol aroma. Very fruity but with a sweet alcohol kick, dark fruits, plums, raisens, apples, but the alcohol keeps overiding it and the more I drink it and it warms up the alcohol is just to sweet, bitter, and noticeable but at 14.9% I expected that. Unfortunately it stays a sweet alcohol taste to the finish that just doesn’t taste good to me.
