HonkeyBra (1264), Lemont, Illinois, USA Mar 20, 2009 Reddish pour with white head. Active carbonation. Aroma of oranges, nuts, tofee, brown sugar, honey, dried fruits, caramel. Flavor is very sweet and booze, though not as bad as I was led to believe. Mandarin oranges, maraschino cherries, burnt sugar with warming alcohol in the back of the throat. Chewy palate. Pretty good. nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA Mar 17, 2009 The 2005 vintage has been aging quietly in my cellar for the past few year. I was incorporating some new brews into my cellar recently and decided it was time to give this one a try. Pours a cloudy, nearly opaque, orange brown with a slim white head that faded fast. The nose is amazing, raisins, brown sugar, honey, sweet/sticky fruits, slight booze, caramel, orange. Flavor is very sweet, caramel, toffee, with citrus, some booze, and this delicious, shoe leather like earthiness. Thick and sticky in the mouth on the finish. I wish I had a case of this. Delicious and well aged. Probably peaking. Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Mar 14, 2009 Batch 4. Pours light brown with a thin fizzy head. Smells boozy with some dark fruity hints. Tastes of booze, tea and fruity with a lot of sweetness on the finish. An unbalanced mess. alexsdad06 (1056), Ohio, USA Mar 13, 2009 22 oz. bottle Batch 2 shared by Tmoney99. Pours a hazy amber color with a small rapidly diminishing off white head. The aroma is heavy on the malts, caramel, fruity, resiny, citrus, and some alcohol. The flavor opens with a big dose of caramel/toffee sweetness, smooth, fruity, still with strong alcohol. The alcohol is not the burning rubbing alcohol sensation I remember from a couple of years ago, but something slightly more mellow. I think this one can still develop further and look forward to revisiting this in another year. boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 12, 2009 [Vintage, Batch 4 - 2006] Bottle... Poured an opaque burgundy with a thick beige head. Aroma of brandy alcohol, rum alcohol, raisins and other fruit. Thick, chewy palate that really attacked the palate. Super bitter with strong malts and a thick syrupy, sugary alcohol dominance. Finished with cherries, molasses, and a honey sweetness. This beer is a Beast. soyorganic (217), Denver, Colorado, USA Mar 5, 2009 #6 bottle, crazy lovely aroma that is very barleywine esque. I was still smelling the bottle after I finished it. The aroma has candy sugar, chocolate and molasses notes. This beer is a beast, the taste is similar to the aroma with sweet malt notes as well but it hits you in the face with the alcohol. I really enjoyed this beer but if it had a little less alcohol it would be heavenly. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Feb 26, 2009 Crimson body with a thin eggshell head and no real lacing to speak of. Cotton-candy, brown sugar, molasses, and raisin are only outdone by the alcohol. This one is HOT. Warms the throat and then the belly as it goes down. Thick and chewy; like maple saltwater taffy. Slight Belgian influence...heavy influence of ethanol!!! CapnCascade (116), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Feb 23, 2009 Batch 5, courtesy of mgermani. Pours deep ruby-copper, wispy beige head with thin lacing. Aroma is almost Wasabe-esque, horseradish, pickled ginger, hint of turmeric. Flavour is wildly alcoholic (no surprise there), slightly sugar-caney, with a robust profile of noble hops that’s difficult to pin down. Spicy and herbal notes prevail. Finish is long, warm and boozy. My socks were knocked clear into next week. Spectacular!
