Commercial Description:
The Beast is a seducer - accomodating, complicated, powerful, dark and created to last the ages. Beyond this, it’s futile to attempt to describe Him. He will unveil Himself differently to each of His followers. The mark is in His constitution. Brewed with two-row malted barley, honey malt, and imported Belgian specialty grains (aromatic, pale wheat, roasted wheat, and Special B), hops (Magnum, Galena, Saaz, Hallertau, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker), brewing sugars (raisins, dates, blackstrap molasses, alfalfa honey, turbinado, and dark Belgian candy sugar), water, Belgian yeast and another hellion of a yeast strain.OG: 1.138

2004 bottle. Pours a dark maroon-brownish tan. Big tan head, thick and aromatic. Lots of plums, candi sugar, alcohol, earthy hops and yeast. Big aroma that is fruity, estery and fills your nose. Though I couldnt get past the over-the-top nature of The Czar, I could handle this stuff. Drinking it warmed proved to let out the alcohol, but it seemed almost controlled by the huge malt, but also the big yeasty flavor and well-timed bitter hops balance. Palate, while being hugely bitter, alcoholic and sweet, is just superbly smooth and washes down with a soft, slow burn. Hints of banana and bubble gum on the finish, warm and vinous with tons of sugar. Hey, you can’t fault the flavor, and I even think this one is going to improve after a year. I never thought it possible with the Czar, but it proved me wrong, so why can’t this one?

Very sweet bready aroma. Deep red, tiny head. Biting alcohol, but otherwise soft and sweet palate. Finish has alcohol burn. First taste is sticky sweet malts, burnt, and almost tarry in part. However, on the whole it’s very hard to describe. Big like a barley wine, but made superconcentrated. Tons of malt - some marmite. I got a gluey aroma after a while. There’s a guilty pleasure to this - I kind of like it but think I shouldn’t.

(Stockholm Beer Festival 2005) Amber/reddish, offwhite head. Vinous okay aroma, sourish, some vinegars. Oily sweet flavor, some cognac notes. Finish is both sweet and bitter. Alcohol was surprisingly well hidden. Oily body.
