Commercial Description:
The Beast is a seducer - accomodating, complicated, powerful, dark and created to last the ages. Beyond this, it’s futile to attempt to describe Him. He will unveil Himself differently to each of His followers. The mark is in His constitution. Brewed with two-row malted barley, honey malt, and imported Belgian specialty grains (aromatic, pale wheat, roasted wheat, and Special B), hops (Magnum, Galena, Saaz, Hallertau, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker), brewing sugars (raisins, dates, blackstrap molasses, alfalfa honey, turbinado, and dark Belgian candy sugar), water, Belgian yeast and another hellion of a yeast strain.OG: 1.138

12 oz. bottle Batch 3 via my Secret Santa - Pours a murky light brown color with a thin light tan head. Little to none lacing or carbonation. Aroma is strong. Lots of dark esters, doughy malt, and spice. Flavor is fruity sweet. Full body. A real sipper. Alcohol isn’t overbearing with this one. Thanks Santa.

Batch 1 Bottle. This is just an interesting beer, lots of different flavors going on, but I did not take notes and can’t really place anything at this point. The complexity of this one was what sold me on it, sweet to bitter and a host of flavors in between. Thoroughly enjoyable. Batch 2 isn’t nearly as good.

Bottle from 2004 shared by strelnikov. Thanks!
Pours a rich, murky brownish color and smells very sweet, aged and rounded. Taste is smooth, tart, maple like sweetness and the 18.1% ABV is hidden surprisingly well by this point. A twinge of alcohol in the end, but not bad. Rich syrupy body with light carbonation and an intense sweetness in the flavor. Drinkability is pretty low, however. Interesing brew.

Let me start by saying I like this beer. A sweet aroma of hops. A flavor of alcohol and light malt. A full bodied full palated beer with a strong after tast eo alcohol that I really liked. I think my favorite of the style. I’m almost certain that this review was posted wrong on the Beast from the Wood list. I cut and pasted to here and deleted the Wood posting. Sorry about that stevo

14.9% Clear copper with a tan head. Strong smell of sweet ripe plums, dates and figs. Heavy body with sugary sweet flavors same as the smell. Finishes with a strong alcohol punch. Too much sugar and alcohol here. 03/07/2006

Bottle (batch 6, 2008) from BevMo, La Mesa. Deep amber in color. Huge dark fruit aroma. Some figs and alcohol with some spices. Strong flavors of raisin and tobacco. Some prune as well. A little hop bitterness. Quite the sipper. Light alcohol tastes, especially considering the strength.

12 oz. bottle. 2005. Pours a cloudy rust color with a thin, almost creamy, light tan head that lasted through about half the glass and left very little lacing. Aroma was prunes, brown sugar and fruit brandy. The flavor was quite strong with prunes, raisins, brown sugar, molasses, and brandy all present. Very sweet, actually a bit too sweet even for me, who doesn’t mind sweet beers. Full mouthfeel, although a bit cloying because of the sweetness. The alcohol at 14.9% was definitely present, but was not overwhelming. A fun beer to try.

bottle 2006. poured with a nice caramel head. smelled very much like a barley wine with extra malts and fruits. the alcohol definitely warms you up as you go so i understand this being a winter beer. it tasted very full of flavor and went well on the palate. after awhile though it becomes a little too sweet for my taste and becomes more like cough syrup.
