Commercial Description:
The Beast is a seducer - accomodating, complicated, powerful, dark and created to last the ages. Beyond this, it’s futile to attempt to describe Him. He will unveil Himself differently to each of His followers. The mark is in His constitution. Brewed with two-row malted barley, honey malt, and imported Belgian specialty grains (aromatic, pale wheat, roasted wheat, and Special B), hops (Magnum, Galena, Saaz, Hallertau, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker), brewing sugars (raisins, dates, blackstrap molasses, alfalfa honey, turbinado, and dark Belgian candy sugar), water, Belgian yeast and another hellion of a yeast strain.OG: 1.138

Bottle (batch 2). Pours a golden orange and is quite attractive. Smells very strongly of alcohol, with some floral traces. There are a lot of good floral and fruity flavors here, but they are drowned out by the alcohol, of which there is too much. 18.1% and I could taste every bit of it. Perhaps it needs to age to achieve more harmony among the flavors.

Batch #5. Red in color with a decent head. Malt and carmel aromas with some prunelike aromas as well. Sweet very sweet malty flavor of candi sugar, raisons, molasses, and prunes. Very thick body. Had again this weekend and the beer had most of the above but was too overly sweet in the taste and not really that pleasing to me.

Shared a bottle with some of the San Diego dirty crew at O’Briens. Well I had most of it, ouch! Well it was a dark red color with a decent head and lacing. The flavor did not show the alcohol as much as I had imagined. The were some vanilla, cherries, whiskey, and alcohol in there. A nice one indeed.

bottle. pours a dark amber with a minimal head. sweet candy yeasty aroma. strong upfront alcohol taste that takes a bit to get past. wheaty banana taste is lying in wait beneath the teeth of this monster. finish is very dry with a lingering syrup/molasses flavor. this is a very chewy thick brew. another plus, is that the alcohol in this has helped make my recently (possibly broken) injured hand stop hurting. so if you have recently put you fist through every wall in your apartment(and made contact with a few too many studs in the process), this is the beer for you.

2004 vintage courtesy of and shared with gputty. This thing is HUGE! Coppery pour, beige head. Big caramel and fruit nose - dates, figs, big maltiness, brown sugar. The flavors are huge extensions of the nose, plus a big alcohol wallop. Hot, boozy finish. This thing will kill ya, but you’ll die with a smile...

bottle 2006. poured with a nice caramel head. smelled very much like a barley wine with extra malts and fruits. the alcohol definitely warms you up as you go so i understand this being a winter beer. it tasted very full of flavor and went well on the palate. after awhile though it becomes a little too sweet for my taste and becomes more like cough syrup.

Batch 2, 18.1%

Deeply copper-colored with truly red highlights, tiny wisps of carbonation and a small & fading sand-colored head. Intriguing aromas with citrus, cherry, wood/smoke, BIG alcohol and a touch of smoked fish. One sip off the bomber and I knew I was looking at an "all-nighter". Moderately sweet start to a moderately bitter finish with plenty of fruit in between... carried in a rich, strong and syrupy package. Almost a "10", but it was a touch too alcohol-infused.

This was delicious. A cross between a Belgian Strong and a Barleywine.

Aroma is cherries, dried fruit, caramel, alcohol sweetness. Body is a gorgeous ruby with a thin head that dissapates. Taste is sweet, like fruit, and candy, burn is moderate for a 18% beer, not as well covered as WWS, but for the style I think it is done very well. Grapes, dry mouthfeel.
