Surprisingly non alcoholic aroma. Rich and sweet smelling, with loads of noble hops. Flavor is rich, quite sweet, with some serious alcohol flavor, but its not too much. Glorious swirling noble hop flavors. I’ve never tasted a beer that has such a full, rich noble hop flavor, they’re quite sexy. I really like this. drfabulous (1269), Columbia, Missouri, USA

While I’ve had this one long ago, much props to my brother in law for sending me a new bottle from his trip to Colorado. Very nice American Grand Cru. wunderbier (1267), Tampere, Finland
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2004 Sample glass, RateBeer Southeastern Gathering. Big caramel and cookie malt; alcohol, some medium fruits and lots of brown sugar. Deep red-brown color. Super alcoholic kick in the flavor. Heavily sweet throughout with a light bitterness in the finish along with a tinge of acidity. Medium-heavy body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: very big and tasty; a bit too much alcohol in the flavor. JCW (1262), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 17, 2004 This beer has the aroma and appears of a classic Belgian Strong. Ruby red, with a tan medium head, and a sweet, brown sugar and yeast aroma. Flavor is very dry and alcoholic. Weird. Finish is of course very dry. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA

STRONG alcohol and malt aroma with a overwhelming alcohol flavor along with sweet malt and over ripe fruit.
This beer kicked my ass! WISEGUY572 (1246), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2006 Nose is great ... sweet fruit. Initial appearance is great as well ... dark rich yellow golden pour, coppery in the glass ... with a small head that vanishes almost immediately. Mouthfeel is a little thick and syruppy, despite the high alcohol, because of the sweetness and lack of carbonation. Tasate is interesting, with great complexity of fruit, especiallly raisins, prunes, and dates, and good hoppy bitterness behind. Unfortunately, the heat of the alcohol and the sweetness of the fruit and the candy sugar overpower the beer and destroy the balance. And who needs 15% alcohol in a beer? This should be available in small bottles as an aperitif, in which case it would be great, but as a drinking beer in a large bottle it is just too much. Ober (1226), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 14, 2009 A clear dark red/brown colored beer, with a small beige head. The aroma of sweet fruits like apricot with malts and alcohol. The taste is fruity, like apricot/peach. It’s sticky with a lot of alcohol. The aftertaste is bitter with honey sweets and a full taste. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 1, 2005 Updated: Sep 13, 20072004 bottle(Batch 2). Clear, dark amber color with a small off white head. Sweet malt aroma with lots of fruit(oranges?) and some alcohol. Sweet malt flavor, but not nearly as sweet as I had thought it would be. Some hops come through on the end, along with a big alcohol bite.
Definitely a sipping beer.
