I forgot to write down the notes for this one as i was too busy dancing and singing and socialising as one does on a thursay nite wrecked at home with a chum, however it just so happens that this beer is soo hardcore that the chum didnt finish his so i can rate it again now. Aroma is everything i love about belgiun ale, sweet yeasty fruity, cellar, sherry, rum, brown sugar, plums, really intence and really appealing, the age is showing nicely, im guessing that this would have been a whole point less fresh. Taste is full on, i mean the body is nearly dark lord, coats the mouth sticky character, alround similar to the aroma, you can feel the alc far more than taste it, finish says come now your getting far too drunk again, however also says give me more! Flavor is very complex, very sweet. Has a thick, syrupy mouth-feel. Unbelieveable beer; worth the $8.50 per bottle that I get it for at Whole Foods. Highly recommended! jstraw (777), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 4, 2007 Red mahogany with big, foamy head / Big nose of vine fruit and alcohol / Full bodied with spritzy carbonation / Sweet, syrupy, complex flavors of raisins, figs, dates, backstrap molasses, cinnamon, and stick sugar / More like a sweet sherry. If you can accept the style, this is a spectacular beer. An extra point just for the insanity. (Share in liqueur glasses.) georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA

Thank you, thank you, thank you for a true nectar of the gods. Poured a deep brown with little off-white head.
The aroma was an assault on the sense with licorice, molasses, vanilla, raisins and oak. It was dry on the palate like a red wine with an oak flavor and a lot of alcohol. This beer is definitely not for everyone only those who can brave the beast. joet (1709), Fulton, California, USA

This isn't a giant lumbering kitchen sink of a beer. The dates and fig is immediately evident, dough and teriyaki, honey and something distinctly *meaty*. The herbals flavors revolve around juniper and pine. Slick and alcoholic feel -- warming and pleasant. Fabulous! Kudos Avery!! This beer is SERIOUSLY underrated. wilkie (1193), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Feb 28, 2006 Bottle. Batch 3. Mahogony color with a medium tan head, very frothy, nice lacing. Aroma is very malty--caramel, and a lot of fruity, yeasty odors (raisin, plum). Flavor is strong caramel and very similar to aroma. Very string alcohol aftertaste. Great beer. | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | May 16, 2004 A red beer with a beutiful light brown head. The aroma is fantastic; berries, especially cowberries, hops, and spices. The flavor is like black currant juice - that gives You warmth, since the alcohol runs down Your cheeks. An excellent beer. Thanks to Mads Berg for sharing this one. millerclmb (44), Boulder, Missouri, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 10, 2004 WOW! What an incredible seductive. almost scarlet-brown color. Practiaclly no head...appears a little fizzy. Strikes me with the first sip with a boquet of complexity. There is everything from honey to spicy chutney covered grainy pancakes in the taste.
My description says something about the glorious alcohol content...which is masked by the most easy drinking soft palate ever.
Without a doubt more drinkable and morer accomodating than Chimay Blu
This is the best belgian I have tried...not as fruity as many. No banana taste. Just pure roasted malts and complex malts. I feel like I could sit and wonder at this one for years to come.
Almost as complex as a good scotch.
