Nice aroma of Dark fruits, spice, toffee, and a slight bit of alcohol. this beer starts off with some candy like malt sweetness, which leads to a giant melding of flavors on the tongue. dark fruits, caramel, toffee, raisins, maple syrup. Herbal hops are quite present throughout and balance the sweetness nicely, slight pleasant warming alcohol burn toward the finish, but considering that this is almost 16%, alcohol is well concealed. Well done, and a beast of a beer indeed! madsberg (4966), Søborg, Denmark

Hops, sweetness, some chocolate notes and spices in the flavour. Really delicious alcahol mouthfeel. The alcahol is initially well hidden, but it pleasantly burns on the palate. Has a balanced bitterness in the end. Really good one provided by Raindog. Thanks. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 10, 2004 Congrats to Hotstuff on number 1000! Let’s hear it for her! This massive monstrous bottle brew from 2004 poured a medium sized head of fine to large sized mostly lasting light brown colored bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body was a softly carbonated transparent brown color. The aroma is very aromatic with a mix of scents. Present are cinnamon, raisin, and roses. WOW! The palate is massive. It is very vinuous at the start and lingers with a mellowing finish. Very potent stuff. The mouth feel is tingly from start to finish. It a 5 on the palate simply for its audacity! Wow! Did I say Wow? Ball cried the queen is I had two I’d be king! Nut cried the prince I have two and I am not! This brew is the queen! It has balls! Big hairy ones! It is definitely a hairy beast! It is very flavorful vinuous with strong malt and hop notes with brown malts and woody roasted malts mixed in. Very flavorful! Definitely a top brew! Did I say wow? unclebleen (620), California, USA

Complex and intense aroma of fruit and syrups and hops. Just a power-packed nose. Feels warm and smooth and slightly syrupy in the mouth. Gives that esophogeal warmth as it heads down to the stomach. The flavor is sweet and fruity, with the heat of distilled spirits. This is excellent and something to cellar and age.
15.7% VERSION: The Beast. My first car was a 1957 Ford Failrlane 500 with a big T-Bird engine. On the front fender, just back of the headlight, I applied the name The Beast. It was forever known as that among my cronies. And now, Avery The Beast. This poured a cherrywood color with a beige head. The aroma was fruity and spicy and, hmm, gingerbread. Syrupy, rich, and creamy feel in the mouth. The flavor was also fruity and spicy and that touch of gingerbread. Molasses. Rich and full. Worthy of the name The Beast. Thanks, Chris (belgianhomebrew), for this trade. Much enjoyed. KAggie97 (2457), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA

Holy Cheech and Chong this stuff is potent! I had a full lunch at Babin’s (a local Cajun seafood restaurant, for those of you not from this area) beforehand and this STILL had a kick. However, unlike cheap liquor, this kick had a purpose. This is an extraordinary beer; one that deserves attention by all serious beer afficianados. The first contact with the tongue provides a sweet begining, but like the eye of a hurricane, it’s only the calm before the (next) storm. Once the alcohol kicks in, hold onto your seat and enjoy the ride (on your couch, not on the four-wheeled variety). Take your time with this one, but enjoy every last sip. Cheers!
Bottle, Batch 3
Pours thick and syrupy with little had. Cognac and raisin are evident in the nose. Flavor is a rush of molasses, raisin, and fermented grape. Slight hint of peach in there as well. Very chewy mouthfeel. The alcohol really doesn’t come into play as much as last year, but the flavor and feel is still awesome. Belgo (145), Køge, Denmark
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 31, 2006 Ooomph!!! Pours an extremely thick amber-brownish with not much of a head (it actually makes no sound at all as it is poured into the glass).
The aromas are heavier than heavy!! Primarily raisins, dried dates, moscovado sugar, coriander, oranges, apricots and a brandy-like hint of alcohol.
Thick and massive on the palate, it coats the tongue in sugar and delivers flavours of honey, apricots and a vinous aftertaste that lasts forever. This is truly an impressive and amazing beer, but also one where I wouldn’t want to drink more than - at most - a third of a bottle.
