Absolutely lovely aroma is dominated by sweet cherries, with alcohol, candied fruit, anise and hops. Not a lot of roast in the flavour or the aroma. Lots of candied fruit, hops, mocha and anise in the flavour. Big mouthfeel. Alcohol in the finish.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 26, 2009 Not the blackest of the black, but black, with reddish highlights. Thick tan head, mild filmy lacing. Aroma is unique, interesting and good. Licorice, bananas, fresh baked bread, molasses, also a hint of pure malt. The palate is rich and smoky and syrupy. Leans a bit towards the sweet side, a bit of toffee, more molasses and a bit of hops at the end. Very nice. hike20 (38), Iowa, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2009 2008 batch. Pours black with a thick creamy head. Thick globs of lacing cling to the glass. Aromas of malt, alcohol and a bit of vanilla. Not as complex smelling as some imperials I’ve tried.
The alcohol is not as dominant in the flavor as in the aroma, but it does leave a satisfying warmth. Sweet dominates, but is not overpowering. Hop flavors noted in some reviews has mostly faded at this point. There’s some licorice in there but not enough chocolate for my palate. The finish is just a little on the sour side.
Mouthfeel is nice, but just a bit thin for an impy, at least to my preference. Pretty good overall, but not up to the level of others in this category. arminjewell (150), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 23, 2009 2008 batch, poured oily black with little to no head with not much aroma, but the taste of sweet coffee and chocolate with some nice bittering hops and smoky ending makes this a delicious RIS! beernbourbon (313), chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 23, 2009 On tap. Pour is dark dark brown with a medium tan head. Not as black as expected. Aroma is roasted malt, light coffee, light chocolate, and faint faint hop. Flavor is much more roasty than expected. Very little sweetness in this, much more coffee and faint bitterness. Finish is crisp and clean. I like this beer. shawnm213 (997), South Bend, Indiana, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 19, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours black with a light tan head. Light aroma of plums and bready malt. Taste is sweet malt with very light bitterness. Full body with mild carbonation and a thick syrupy mouth feel. Overall, a bit too sweet and malty for me, I prefer some more roasty and hop qualities in my Imp Stouts. drfabulous (1275), Columbia, Missouri, USA
