jake65 (1247), Meridian, Idaho, USA Jul 5, 2008 Bottle: Pours a clear copper color with a large, creamy beige head. Lots of sticky lacing. Aroma is a strong hop blast with lots of citrus and pine. Still, nice and sweet. Flavor is deep in hoppyland with a nice citrus and caramel sweetness. Strong, intense, yet rather smooth and soothing. Very enjoyable!
Mogwai (186), Askeby, Denmark Sep 7, 2008 Bottle at Ørsted. Tasted at a pub crawl with local dept. of Danish Beer enthusiasts. At the point of the day I was too influenced by alcohol to write anything except 5 numbers, that is my rating above. But I loved it. BigBen2120 (558), Gardiner(52 miles from Allagash), Maine, USA Sep 6, 2008 22oz bomber obtained at a liquor store in Nashua, NH. Bottled May 2008 (batch 8). Pours a fairly clear amber-red body with virtually no head. Citrussy and floral hops dominate with a fair bit of caramel malt for balance. Citrus floral hops dominate the flavor initially with a rich caramel toffee malt presence to balance things out. Silky-smooth in texture with light carbonation. Despite the full body and flavor (not to mention the alcohol, which is barely noticeable), this beer is surprisingly drinkable, leaving me wanting more. A phenomenal example of the style, a great beer. My first Avery, looking forward to many more soon! rthbass (21), Vancouver, Washington, USA Sep 5, 2008 Updated: Sep 6, 2008In the bottle from By the Bottle in Vancouver, WA.
Wow. Quite possibly the best IIPA out there! Pours dark amber with an off-white medium head. Super clear. Smells of pure hop resin. Very reminiscent of a Dogfish 90 Minute. Thick mouth feel and balance beyond belief!! It’s like the hops and the malt are running a two-legged race together. I can’t get over how well they marry together. Very interesting hop profile. Cascadian while it’s cold and more Lagunitas-like as it warms up with that "soy sauce" component. But delicious non the less and much more balanced. I can’t wait to have this on tap! Seek this beer out please!! Nik925 (136), California, USA Sep 2, 2008 Low head, but understandable for the alcohol level (which slips by undetected). Also a little thick, but once again ok for the alcohol%. Even with those disclaimers, it has an amazing mouth feel. The bitter is kept in check somehow. This is a hop showcase. An awesome beer. drjay44 (127), USA Sep 1, 2008 22 oz. bottle, 10.21% ABV. This is apparently another batch. Nice tan, tightly bubbled head, marvelous nose with pine, floral hop overtones, pleasant copper color, good heavy mouthfeel ...multiple layers of flavor, citrus, malt, hop floral and bitter. Quite wonderful balance considering 102 IBU’s and over10% alcohol.
