Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Pours a slightly hazy brown with a small off white head. Very fruity aroma, a lot of malts, berries, and a touch of caramel. Big sugar and sweetness to this beer. Very malty with some cinnamon and dark fruits. Maybe a little too fruity and too light bodied. i’d like to see some more body, this feels more like a dubbel than a quad to me. Still decent though

Starting off rather lame, this guy soon develops quite a bit of character. Rather light in color for a quadruple, it has a very thick mouth feel that seems to rely on apricots and peaches more so than raisins and plums like other quadruples. It warms your through very well, it even has some noticeable hop characteristics.

22 oz bottle. Interested in this after having quad’s before. Pours a dark copper color with a half finger high white head that disappates quickly. Smells of molasses, lots of caramel malt, possibly some dried fruit flavored molasses and a hint of alcohol with perhaps a slight vanilla aftertaste. Very complex aroma. Tastes of sugary malt, some dried fruit (possibly raisins), with the small vanilla aftertaste. Goes down pretty smoothly, with a nice full-bodied feel and a hint of alcohol. Overall a very complex beer that is quite good.

600ml Bottle sahred with pyrozoid and French Tickler. Light brown orange appearance with a medium off white head. Aroma: grape fruit, vanilla cake, caramel and toffee. Flavor: light grape fruit taste, alcohol, sweet taste and white pepper. Palate: medium to full body, average carbonation, thick, oily silky with an alcohol chalky finish.

A very nice quad but is not quite on the level of the St. Bernardus’ and Rochefort’s of the world. Aroma reminds me of raisins and caramel, heavy on the raisin. Appearance is cloudy, orange, with a very minimal head. Flavor is sweet, raisiny, malty, definitely has a huge alcohol "kick" and has a bitter aftertaste that doesn’t hit you till later. It’s a full bodied beer that is light on carbonation. Overall it is a good effort but didn’t knock my socks off like some of the top Trappist breweries. Hope you like raisins, a lot.
