soccer290 (135), Highland Park, Illinois, USA Mar 14, 2009 22 oz bottle. Interested in this after having quad’s before. Pours a dark copper color with a half finger high white head that disappates quickly. Smells of molasses, lots of caramel malt, possibly some dried fruit flavored molasses and a hint of alcohol with perhaps a slight vanilla aftertaste. Very complex aroma. Tastes of sugary malt, some dried fruit (possibly raisins), with the small vanilla aftertaste. Goes down pretty smoothly, with a nice full-bodied feel and a hint of alcohol. Overall a very complex beer that is quite good. Agaguk (118), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Mar 12, 2009 600ml Bottle sahred with pyrozoid and French Tickler. Light brown orange appearance with a medium off white head. Aroma: grape fruit, vanilla cake, caramel and toffee. Flavor: light grape fruit taste, alcohol, sweet taste and white pepper. Palate: medium to full body, average carbonation, thick, oily silky with an alcohol chalky finish. fastcarjoe (8), Morton Grove, Illinois, USA does not count Mar 6, 2009 Updated: Mar 9, 2009A very nice quad but is not quite on the level of the St. Bernardus’ and Rochefort’s of the world. Aroma reminds me of raisins and caramel, heavy on the raisin. Appearance is cloudy, orange, with a very minimal head. Flavor is sweet, raisiny, malty, definitely has a huge alcohol "kick" and has a bitter aftertaste that doesn’t hit you till later. It’s a full bodied beer that is light on carbonation. Overall it is a good effort but didn’t knock my socks off like some of the top Trappist breweries. Hope you like raisins, a lot. TEJA (281), Stockholm, Sweden Mar 6, 2009 Draught at Oliver Twist. Fluffy off white foam tha goes away fast. The aroma remindes me of caramellized orange peel. The caramell is also dominating the taste, but there is also almond paste. The body is big but the bitterness is low almost not present. Cavie (1317), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Mar 4, 2009 VERY sweet. Taste makes your taste buds tingle from the first drink. Not bad but is a little strong. ben4321 (952), Rockville, Maryland, USA Mar 3, 2009 Location:Bottle, purchased at Gilly’s
Aroma: Fruity, spiciness, raisin
Appearance: Orange, cloudy, full head
Flavor: Really nice complexity comes through as you drink it.
Palate: Full body, little creamy
Overall Impression:
Enjoyable beer with some interesting complexity. Quads are definately one of my favorite styles of beer. This one has some fruity flavors, strong hint of raisins, hides the alcohol really well, you can hardly taste the 10%. Overall pretty enjoyable.
