Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Draught at Oliver Twist. Fluffy off white foam tha goes away fast. The aroma remindes me of caramellized orange peel. The caramell is also dominating the taste, but there is also almond paste. The body is big but the bitterness is low almost not present.

VERY sweet. Taste makes your taste buds tingle from the first drink. Not bad but is a little strong.

Location:Bottle, purchased at Gilly’s

Aroma: Fruity, spiciness, raisin
Appearance: Orange, cloudy, full head
Flavor: Really nice complexity comes through as you drink it.
Palate: Full body, little creamy
Overall Impression: Enjoyable beer with some interesting complexity. Quads are definately one of my favorite styles of beer. This one has some fruity flavors, strong hint of raisins, hides the alcohol really well, you can hardly taste the 10%. Overall pretty enjoyable.

It’s a gorgeous beer. caramel color and a lacy white head. Loving the candy sugar in this - it gives it a sweet, creamy taste and with the traditional fruit spice you’ll find in a quad. It’s 10% of tasty goodness, but can get a bit syrupy as you let it warm.

cloudy orange, topped with minimal froth aroma is mostly old pears and yeast, floral hops flavor is also apple and pear, a bit odd for a belgian, but with some of that underlying raisinyness and whatnot. also strong alcohol a bit thin, lingering finish but somewhat watery

I had this in the bottle at Ashley’s in Ann Arbor MI. I basically chose this on a whim, since everything I’ve had from avery recently has been amazing. This poured a very pretty dark amber with a delicate white head. This wasn’t a "wow" beer, but it was definitely a strong effort from a great brewery. It had some sweetness and a hint of raisins on the finish. A great beer with a great story behind it. Cheers!

a- pours a clear, dark amber hue with one finger of very creamy white head that is mostly diminishing, fair lacing, and tiny particulates s- nose is of sweet, sugary malts as well as a variety of fruit tones (dark fruits and apples), nice Belgian aroma with light alcohol presence t- Taste is well-balanced with caramel malts and sweet sugar, long full aftertaste is mostly bitter hops and a decent kick of alcohol m- Full-bodied with adequate carbonation and rich mouthfeel d- this is a nice, big quadrupel from Avery, very solid in all categories but not quite reaching the upper tier
