Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

22oz bottle. Brightly clear amber with a fleeting white head and lasting foam. Doesn’t look much like a quad, but is nice regardless. Fruity, sugary aroma with some blackberry, apple, and a touch of pool water. Sweet and sugary with light apple and dried papaya notes and some light alcohol burn. Finishes sweet. Thin for style body with weak carbonation. Overall, a sweet amber ale with some light fruity touches. Decent, but not a god quad

It pours a dark amber color; pretty hazy. Not very much of a head; what is there is off-white and fizzy, but it was gone after a few seconds. This looks nothing like any quad that I have ever had before. The aroma is a strong malty brown sugar and molasses. Little bit of chocolate and alcohol as well. Strong warming alcohol in the flavor. Some caramel flavors, maybe a little vanilla. Actually has a lot of hop flavor without too much of the bitterness. Some plum and a little citrus as well. Really more like an underhopped Double IPA. A good rich body that leaves some lingering sweetness. Decent beer, but lacks something for the style.

Aroma of sucking candies, appearance that is orange but lacking the foam that a "Belgian" style ale is required to have. Vanilla, apricot, booze and candied sugar are evident in the flavor but this is still missing the depth and complexity one would expect. Maybe this is too young. Man, I love Averys ambition but their execution is somewhat lacking.

Bottle. Quite sweet aroma of red wine, cherries and a little bit of alcohol. It has a creamy light brown head, which stays normal long. The body is dark red. The taste is light malty, only very light bitter in the finish. In between is some sweetness hidden. The duration is average. The beer is light dry and creamy with a medium body and normal carbonation. A very nice Quadrupel from the States.

A mean looking beer on the label looks like a typical ale on the pour with its light brown appearnace and thin fading head. However, the smell, taste, and palate creep on you!

My 2300th. From bomber shared with my wife. Light alcoholic vapors, fruity in character with cherry wood and blossoms, craisins, and maple sugar. Sweet fragrant nose with some unfermented sugar tang. Light hop notes. Coppery amber clear body with thin off-white lacing head. Medium-heavy body, not chewy but not watery either. Carbonation is fairly low, but still gives just a bit of carbonic tang. Alcoholic warming on this one. Starts pretty sweet, with brown sugar, maple and cherry wood, alcohol and some phenols. Light raisin with some vanilla. Still pretty hot, this one, though drinkable. Finish is sweet, not sticky, with an underlying dry bitter character. Not hoppy, but not overly sweet. After is dull sweet with lingering alcohol.

Found this on sale at my local shop. Pours a very red amber in color and slightly cloudy with a small, quickly fading thin head. Aroma has a bunch of candy sugar, some light caramel, light cherry fruit and a little yeasty at the end. Flavor is very sweet candy sugar, a little apple fruit flavor with some bready notes and ends withe a slight spicy flavor. Alcohol is present throughout the tasting of the beer. Overall, the beer has a very complex aroma and flavor making it a lot of fun to drink.
