Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Reddish amber w/ almost no head. Banana esters and rotten produce in the aroma. Taste is the same, with thankfully less rot. Alcohol warmth. Slightly off balance.

Big bottle. Clear copper colour with a perfect medium head that settles with good lacing. Aroma of caramel, malt and some sugar. Pleasant flavour with a nice warming finish. Would be great on a cold night. Not something that knocks your socks off but definitely pleasant.

Bottle. Warm caramel color with thin off-white head. High carbonation at pour. Licorice and caramel dominated aroma. Maltiness, sugars, and licorice predominate flavors. Not one of my favorites.

Bottle. Clear amber pour. Little head. Sweet aroma of dark fruits, malt and belgian yeasts. Flavor similar, along with spice and alcohol. Very smooth texture.

The beer is a red amber with a thin white head. The nose is big, I can smell it 2 ft. away. The nose is a mix of sweet malts, hops, spice, caramel and toasted nuts. The mouth feel is slightly thick with a nice round feel. The taste somewhat follows the nose but it finish with a somewhat unpleasant funk, almost fishy.

22oz bottle, foolishly purchased. Pours a bright, clear ruby-orange color; light-tan head with glistening fine-bubbled lacing. Stale malts, chewy dried fruits, and boozy leather in the aroma; highly alcoholic for the amount of aroma. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: sticky candy sugar, cardboard, and chewy, ridiculously sticky maltiness; unbalanced and just remarkably sweet without much character or malty complexity. Very, very disappointing, though I should know better. Lengthy, sticky finish: cardboard, chewy malts, cereal, and basic sugar. Not very good at all.

22oz. bottle: This one pours a slightly ruby tinged amber color. There was a very small off white head that disappeared almost immediately. There is some alcohol to the nose. Also notes of spices, caramel, and some fruits. It is very flavorful. There are many. Caramel, a hint of spices, maybe cherries. Nice.
