Dmalone102 (216), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 5, 2008 The Reverend was one of the first big beers that I have ever enjoyed. I first drank it about 5 or 6 years ago, when it still had the wax cap covering. I just drank it last night, which was my first time in a long time. It has a beautiful orange color and a nice, sweet malty aroma. What I like the best about the Reverend is that it is very strong and complex, yet it is so enjoyable to drink. There is no harshness at all. I taste dates in the malt, but not overbearing. The hop profile is low, as it should be. This is a sneaky beer, in that you don’t realize that you are drinking a 10% quadruple ale!
tarjei (1741), Bryne, Norway Jun 5, 2008 0,66 l bottle, at Hopheads tasting at Roger´s place. Amber/brown color, off-white head. Aroma is sweet malt and fruit. There is aroma that hints of yeast and fruit. The taste is a mix of apple, spice, pepper, alcohol, and ginger. cblado (146), Wisconsin, USA Jun 1, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown. A bit of an off-white head. Aroma is very strong: malty and fruity, with a hint of spice. Flavor is even stronger, starts with a significant apple notes, with some underlying molasses, and ends with a spicy flourish. Wow. A lot going on in this brew. Didn’t sit too well with me, but the flavor is interesting. larsniclas (3383), Gothenburg, Sweden May 31, 2008 Bottled. Thx gnoff.
Deep amber, slightly hazy. Almost no head.
Spicy and fruity; sweet, dried fruits. Warm alco-feel. WolfsBlood84 (103), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA May 30, 2008 22 oz. Bottle (Probably a year or so vintage) - The little liquor store I frequent is out the way enough that they have a few treats which tend to be nicely aged because its normal customers buy 40s and cheap vodka. Pours a reddish amber with a small tannish head. Aroma is Belgian candi sugar, malts, dark fruits. Flavor is the same, but I expect a little more punch from a beer that claims to be a Quad. It was almost watery compared to some others I ’ve had. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad beer, it’s complex, and has a lot going on; but maybe it just needs more time or balance. I’m not quite sure - just a little lacking somewhere. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA May 27, 2008 On tap @ Coles Buffalo NY. Pours a light amber color with long lasting white head. Sweet malt aroma, candi sugar, caramel & molasses. Warm alcohol burn from the start that is met with some malt sweetness. Slight cherries & cream taste. Need some work ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA May 26, 2008 Brown pour with reddish hues. Tan head and decent lace. Cotton candy aroma, which for me is the highlight of this beer. A little over carbonated with flavors of yeast, candy sugar, spice, and caramel malt. Slightly alcoholic finish
