Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

honey colored beer with an off white ring for a head. really sweet aroma... smells of honey, brown sugar, fruit/bananas, wood and booze. the palate is quite sweet and hot and not really worth sipping half a glass or so. the flavor is the same as the aroma with a little spiciness and a dry yeasty finish. it really lacks any personality. medium body with a rather sticky mouth feel. this does however, make a good glaze for caramelized pears...

(cleaning out my beer bottle collection as pictured in my profile and utilizing ratebeer.com) As I recall, this was an excellent brew. Slighlty malty and sweet with a great kick.

Bottle. Amber pour, surprisingly clear and with a minimal head. Nice lacing, though. Dried fruits (apricots and strawberries), banana, malt, burnt sugar on the nose. A little dried ginger. Sweet palate (banana pancakes!) with hot alcohol burn. Really not my favorite, but worked well for the quick buzz I was hoping for tonight. That’s sad if that’s all I can say about a quadrupel, particularly from Avery. A value for the price, but there are certainly better quads out there.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 12 April 2008) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with dried fruit, caramel and floral notes of roses. Malty taste with notes of dried fruit, strawberries and red-currant. Full body, really sweet. Nicely balanced and tasty, maybe slightly too sweet, but still a nice beer.

Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. Malty, yeasty aroma with some ripe fruits and sugar. Flavor is also fruity and sweet, with a hint of spice near the end. Average bodied. Good, but not great.

Pours gold into a Trappist glass. Head quickly recedes to hug rim. Sweet malt aromas. Banana upfront with a dried pit fruit middle and a lasting sweet alcohol burn.

Amber-gold presentation with a promising clean flavor. Filtered, leaving a clean white head. Gentle, non-offensive aroma leaves a confidence that speaks for itself. Flavors trigger the back of the tung, reminds me of early autumn. I can see the orange leaves, in fact the color reminds me of the season as well... Love to see this beer unfiltered.

Nose is minimal to me. Yeast, cinnamon, ginger, and alcohol in the mouth which work very well together. not a huge fan of the style.
