Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Bottle. Pours a opaque reddish-caramel color, with a wisp of wet head. Sticky sheets of lacing. Raisin, caramel, dough, fig, melon...could be more assertive though. Raisin in the flavor, and licorice, molasses, caramel, banana, brown sugar, peach. Lots of stuff here, nice. Medium-bodied, and drinkable despite the ABV. Nice clean finish. Well-balanced. This is good.

sweet candy dark fruit aroma. pours a pale copper, slightly cloudy. very small white head. starts out intensely sweet and malty, then gets dry and a little spicy. the finish is neverending, which is strange for how thin it feels. Nice and complex, but overpoweringly sweet

22 oz bomber purchased at Spirits RB. Pours a crisp clear burnt rust color wih a large white fluffy head that slowly recedes and leaves some lace on the glass. Aroma of yeast, candi sugar and some bread. Palate is on the thin side with a watery feel and average carbonation. Grainy flaovr with lots of bread, slight sweetness from the sugars, yeast, dough and fruit rind. Nice beer I just wish I had the patience to age it but alas I didn’t.

Reddish in color with a good white head. Aromas is sweet with the fruitness and caramel coming through. Taste is sweet. Body has been lightened somewhat for the strenght of the beer. Not bad.

Copper to dark amber with a thin off-white head. A slightly vegetal note after the first pour and sniff. Developed into a moderately intense malty and spice backbone. Raisin, black pepper and black cherry notes. Slight resiny earthy hop aroma with a thin aromatic layer of anise candy. Mouthfeel is warming but not the rocket-fuel I imagined it would be. Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation. Very similar to a doulbed dubbel (hence the quadrupel?) and could use some age to balance out the profile...though too much age might build up too much vegetal character. Lots of specialty malt is evident with a particular emphasis on special b. A very fine beer, but a little too sweet of a finish for my taste.

Orange-amber with creamy, off-white head / Complex, floral, winey nose / Full body with big malts but lightening with a good, hoppy, long finish / Flavors of violets, banana, orange, candied sugar, coriander, and oak / Nicely balanced, almost delicate, for such a big ale.

A very well crafted brew. Dont understand how low the rating is. It is relatively dark and a little flat for a normal Quad however the brew is still very well prepared and has great malty goodness.
