TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Feb 18, 2008 Strong belgian ale! Sweet aroma that pours a hazy gold color with shown sediment. The taste is of ripe plums...or cherries, but very complex! BeerVirgin72 (778), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Feb 16, 2008 Had on tap at Brews. Pour is a dark copper with an almost ruby haze. Aroma was sweet plums and molases. Taste was seriously, all over the board. This is a pretty complex quad. Malts, brown sugar, candy, raisins, fruits, cinnamon, cloves, and a light hop finish. Its confusing, but really quite good and very drinkable. Alcohol was incredibly well hidden. AllAboutStout (605), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Feb 10, 2008 Pours a light gold in color with some ruby highlights. No head appears on the pour. Smell is belgian candy sugar and some delicious dark fruits in plenty. Taste is the same in sugar and dark fruits. Mouthfell is full and creamy and easy drinking. Not a world class quad, but $4.99 a bomber makes it an occasional purchase. petermadsen (391), Vesterbronxxx, Denmark Feb 9, 2008 An amber quad with low carb and diminutive head. Aroma is actually very fresh for a quad with an almost clean touch to the dried fruit esters and the cara and sugar noters.
The flavour is complex but delicate. A fine texture of dried fruits, some spicyness (mostly vague notes of orange and some cloves) and a sexy, nearly dry finish.
A fine beer aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Feb 1, 2008 The color was dark peach. The head was thin, fizzy, and white. The aroma was sweet malt, alcohol, and hops. The flavor was sweet malt, alcohol, strong hops, and spice. The palate was thick. The finish was warm. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Feb 1, 2008 Pours a light translucent amber. Very thin frothy amber head. The aroma is sweet, fruity, alcohol, a little Belgian must. The flavor is sweet, really hot alcohol, a little Belgian must, dry, not too hot. The palate is harsh and hot, not too nice of a finish. StFun (535), Indiana, USA Feb 1, 2008 Oh man...I felt just like a Catholic schoolboy after messing around with this Reverend! Man, there is a lot going on here for sure. Malty...carmel...fruit...maybe coffee? toffee? Good lord (get it?) I can’t keep up. The candy sugar is very apparent, and (sadly) so is that 10%. Too strong and complicated for me, just too much going on and none of it good. Avery’s other offerings are MUCH better. Marsiblursi (1631), Göteborg, Sweden Jan 31, 2008 (Two year old bottle) Pours a glowing reddish amber colour with a small off white head. The aroma is very sweet sugary and quite complex with some alcohol warmth. The malt brings caramel and toffee but also some notes of cookies and almonds. Floral hops in the background. Bit yeasty and very fruity with tones of cherries, pears, oranges, plums, kiwi and currant. Also some spiciness in the background of pepper, cinnamon and maybe some clove. Hints of marzipan. The flavour is medium fruity, medium spicy, medium to full malty and sugary and light yeasty. Lots of caramel, toffee, almonds and cherries but also some hints of cinnamon and white pepper. The mouthfeel is soft, round and sticky, but not too sticky. Medium sweet and light bitter with a light dryish ending. Aftertaste is peppery with a lingering sugary and caramelly sting. Near full bodied. This is a quite nice beer but not that try to the style and something is missing.
